Why does the Emerson sub-forum exist?

I'm genuinely curious. I have nothing against Emerson (the knives, the man, or the company).

All of the other manufacturer forums have a company rep as a moderator. It doesn't appear that this is the case with the Emerson forum.

Ernest Emerson does appear to be a member here. However, the only time he ever posts is to advertise something. He never (going back 2 pages of his posts, to the beginning of 2012) responds to anything that anyone else posts.

My guess is that the Emerson sub forum exists for guys to hang out and chat about Emerson knives, maybe show off pictures and stuff. Not very many regulars to that forum so no need for a major presence, and if people need answers they can always call or email EKI.
You should come hang out, you would be most welcome.

Emerson used to take active part on the forums. They've stopped for whatever reason. Their forum is going to be archived next time I'm working on stuff.

Thanks for the response. Not trying to start controversy, I was genuinely curious.

Emerson doesn't really have a huge following on this forum for whatever reason. He posts more frequently on the toxic green forum.

He's got a following but he doesn't respond to it. That's the whole point of this thread. The company used to be active here but no more. Their choice, not up to us to figure out why.

he is a very busy man...with a company to run and alot of people want his time :-)

.
Oh please! That line is so old it has a beard! We're all busy as hell. He finds time to chat on other forums just fine. I think its a matter of personal pref for a forum nothing more or less. He seems to prefer the places where they properly revere him over those that, well, don't.

I hope you don't really mean that. I like Emersons and I think their subforum is a benefit to this site.

Emerson doesn't have a ton of different models and they don't put out many new models so the lack of activity on their forum is understandable. For the most part their subforum is left to moderate itself. While I admit that it would be nice to have Ernest (or somebody from Emerson) jump in from time to time I think you can go too far the other direction too.

Try asking a simple question on the RHK subforum about detents... ...or secondary market... ...or unapproved mods... ...or pretty much anything that isn't having a Hindergasm over how wonderful everything RHK is. You can measure in seconds how long it will be before the unofficial RHK Forum Moderator tells you your out of line, and before the day is over your thread will be locked and left to be buried in the "OMG Look at my New Accessory" threads.

I really like my Hinderer, and Mr. Hinderer himself, but I hate the whole Hinderer culture, men (and woman) who like to play dress up with knives, I don't spend much time on their subforum. The Emerson subforum is a good resource, I've spent quite a bit of time following threads there when researching a new purchase. I guess to sum up: The Emerson forum makes me want to buy more Emersons; the RHK forum makes me want to buy more Striders.

I suppose Mr. Emerson, at some point, made the decision that there were better places to spend his time than here. They seem to stay busy enough that maybe this site just wasn't worth the frustration. I hope you'll leave the subforum open or maybe contact Mr. Emerson and see what he wan't to do with it.

I'm sure that he surely does mean it. If people want the Emerson forum to stay here, the best thing they can do is to contact Emerson and voice that they want the manufacturers subforum here to stay open. In order for that to happen, Emerson needs to appoint a moderator to act on his behalf in the forum, to moderate it and interact with his customers here. The Emerson forum as it sits, is not left to moderate itself, it is left to be moderated by the supermods, and quite frankly, is a burden that we really don't need.

We do not provide "unofficial" company or "fan" forums for any manufacturer. In order for there to be a dedicated forum for any specific company, they must show the willingness to take part in the discussion.

It exists for the same reason the USN started-people can't get enough of Emerson-he lets his knives do the talking

I do not own a emerson but would like to see the forum stay alive. It was really cool when I bought a bk9 and Ethan thanked me for buying his knives. Same go's with spyderco (sal) and RHK, received warm welcomes for purchasing there products. I would like to buy a emerson sometime and see this forum moderated by someone appointed bye them also.

I think it would be very unfortunate to see the sub forum close. Any sub forum for that matter. Where else can the fans and enthusiasts go to discuss their favorite brand with like mined people without the "distractions" of the general forum. At least in a manufactures sub forum there is a degree of respect expected to be shown toward the brand and sub forum etiquette that makes it a more comfortable place to talk about a specific brand.

I really hope some effort is made to reach out to Emerson to give them the opportunity to either appoint a company rep or start making more contributions, at least enough to meet the requirements of keeping the forum open.

Like I said, I think it would be a real shame to see this sub forum closed.

It is up to the company's fans to reach out and ask for a moderator who will check in regularly and answer questions.

Agreed, and I hope that is exactly what they are doing. I rarely if ever visit that forum so I don't know if they are even aware that their sub forum is about to be closed.

I truly hope though that something can be worked out.

I couldn't understand why they were active on one forum and not the other, most heads of knife companies try to spread their time on forums. Sal Glessar for example I do believe that man is a member of every single knife forum in existence, and he visits them as well, So that too busy crap I don't buy it either, I like Emerson knives I do , carried one for years, but I've also read Mr. E say that he doesn't need to advertise his knives , that he hasn't had to in x amount of years. That may very well be true , and I respect Mr. E to the highest level, but IMO you need to stay in touch with the people buying your product, which I'm pretty sure are not all on one forum.
