Why don't I like the BK2? I think there's something wrong with me...

Not a fan of the 0.25" blades either, even 3/16th is pushing it for me depending on the grind of the knife. Can't slice as well, can't chop really on a short knife, and your pants are falling off cause of the extra weight.

The pants falling down issue is easily solved with additional beer and/or red beans and rice. I recommend both.

I have to agree about the 2. I have one but don't use it. Now, if it had an 8" blade, that would be killer.

Doc

You may be on to something.

What if BK&T manufactured two lines: svelte and stocky? Kinda like Mora does with the Companion and their "Heavy Duty" or "Robust" Companion.

Your post got me to thinking about the BK-4, 7, 9 and 10 in both 3/16" and 1/4" stock; don't know that I'd want a 5 in 1/4".

Regular and Heavy-Duty.

Hmmmm.

E, if this flies - do I get sub-royalties?

Did GoNadz really die? Or just disappear?

I can imagine how much you guys miss him!

Haha, really. I remember seeing that for the first time. It was great.

There used to be a member that frequented here, "GoNadz", and he had a pretty funny watermelon get up as well. I kinda miss that guy, he was freakin' hilarious.

EDIT: Not the original contest thread, but DerekH preserved one of the GoNad photos: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...no-better-time-really?p=10050513#post10050513

Anyone that hasn't done it, read this thread Warrior linked. It'll have you laughing like an insane hyena

As for the 2......Grats on the steel. You will love it long term. Had mine for a hot min. Just stripped n polished it up yesterday

very very funny.
Maybe KaBar will make us a FFG BK-2? A BK-2F! Damn, that would be hawt.
Then there'd be no excuse not to indulge the inner caveman.

Ontario did this with some of their knives. The RD series were .25, while the "Bush" series was .188.

Honestly though, even if they offered a 7/9/10 in .25, I doubt I'd be interested. I used to think that .25 would be sweet to have in the 9. But now that I've used the 9 for a few years, I can't imagine needing/wanting more than .188.

In fact, I'd go the opposite way with most of the blades. Keep the larger/longer blades like the 4/9/21 at .188, and make versions of the smaller ones in .165 (5/32, like the tweeners). Like a Bk16 scaled up a bit and using the full sized handle? I could get into that.

Also, I've never thought the BK2 was bad at doing small tasks in the woods. Its thickness behind the edge is similar to other beckers, so it performs similiarly as you'd expect. The real difference comes when you try to slice through something, where that thick spine becomes problematic. However, personally, that's not something I do much with my outdoor knives (I'm not cutting cardboard with mine), so that bit has never been an issue to me.

Anyway, I'm glad that Cavetech is happy with it :).

After spending some quality time with the BK2, I've found out that there are some logs it actually splits better than the 4, specifically the denser hard woods like rock maple, juniper, and beech, the wider blade width splits much more efficiently

I've also been using it to cut up salad veggies and it's working okay for that, better than expected, actually
