Why don't more companies use BG-42???

plowboy, I was going to suggest what ubernut said. My 2 large and 1 small Sebbies are all BG-42. If you can find an older small Sebenza, you're good to go, but it does cost.

Thanks. I've got a Sebbie, but it's S30V. I'll keep a watch for one of the older ones in BG-42.

Thanks again,
:)

I am a BG fan as well, it has advantages for the knifemaker (finishing) and the ELU (Performance) but my attitude these days is why bother when there is CPM154CM.

We like BG-42, but Larrin is correct on limited demand, partially because of the high cost.

We've got more on order (very long lead time), but we've haven't decided what to make out of it. I don't want to hijack this thread, but if anyone into Spyderco has thoughts on this, perhaps we could get a thread going on the Spyderco forum in Mfrs?

I have wanted to buy a Volpe and in BG-42 I would.

Tim,

I think this CPM154CM is going to be a winner too. Among others, the Graham Brothers are using this as one of their options in the knives they are making.

:)

How different is this from the 154CM that we are familiar with??
It's the CPM version of 154CM. It makes the microstructure much finer and more uniform, meaning greater response in heat treatment, greater toughness, greater edge stabiliy, greater corrosion resistance, greater edge retention, etc.

This thread pushed me...no fair.

I ordered my first ever custom Buck 110 about an hour ago. I got the Indigo Royalwood, finger grooves, nickle bolsters, rivets and BG-42 blade.

Looking forward to this one riding on my belt while I'm out woods walking.

Right, blame the thread! :D

I am always amazed at how beautiful that simple Buck 110 can look in its infinite custom variations.

hahahahhaaaa... i posted this thread because I have 2 Buck Custom 110 coming to me in about a week or two... and you guessed it.. both are in BG-42....

one user in wood, one safe queen in cow... oops... i mean buffalo...:D

Hey, Esav....of course it's the thread's fault (and all you folks on here). You're leading me down the path to the poor house.:D

And Tetsusaiga, Congrats on the BG42 Bucks you have on the way. I hope you like them.

Now I'm waiting on my 110.
:)

As Larrin says, S30V is a powdered steel and the grain is smaller and the elements better distributed.

I don't have BG42....something I've been thinking of changing. Only problem, most of the knives I see BG42 in are a bit bigger than I like (e.g., Spyderco Military and Buck 110). I like my blades in the 3 inch or slightly smaller range...just suits me better.
:)

If you don't mind a slipjoint, this one's got a 3" BG-42 blade. It's the Queen Dan Burke Rancher. It's a great deal at $150 IMO. Fit and finish are amazing.

Thanks, longbeachguy. I'll take a look...most of my knives are lockers...maybe it's time to put a slipjoint in the mix.
