I guess I don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Too often I see the title edited to just 'sold'. The first thought is, 'what sold'? And almost as a rule, when items do sell, the asking/selling price is changed to '$OLD'. I went over the exchange rules a few times and I can't seem to find if it does in fact call for the seller to edit the selling price to $OLD. Again, my first thought is, 'what did it sell for or what was the asking price'?? Now in no way shape or form am I that guy that says, 'well on this forum they do things this way'!! Quite the contrary. It only stuck out to me as deleting the sale price or editing it can lead to a warning/time out/ban on a couple other forums I frequent so I am super cognizant of Exchange rules.

The point I am trying to make, is that by seeing the title and the post's 'sell price' when I search the forum, history or whatever, helps to get a benchmark for the value of things. A historical place to start when listing items or when gauging market value. Or, to simply see what sold. There are a lot of really special and rare things that cross these boards and it would be awesome to see what they sold for or even when the last time one was listed or whatever.

Why delete the thread titles and why delete the listed price? I get it if someone makes a private offer through DM, but why not just say say 'sold' next to the price? I don't understand the secrecy. Again, it is heavily frowned upon on many other forums with classifieds and exchanges. Just curious why that seems to be standard practice here.

The site owner here leaves it up to the members as to whether or not they want to remove prices.

I do agree with your points and would prefer that prices remain.

You have the choice to leave or delete your price. I usually delete my prices because many times, it doesn’t sell for what I have it listed for. Even if you do see a price, it doesn’t mean that’s what it sold for. That’s between the seller and the buyer. Freedom of choice I guess.

Gotcha. Freedom of choice is fine. I don't get the secrecy. The point you make with a listing not selling for a particular sale price, couldn't you just say you reduced it to $xxx ? To the second point, yeah, I get that the sale price isn't what was offered via DM and what was agreed upon. Price = X, sold per comms. Right? I don't see what deleting the price gains for the seller or any potential buyer.

And that's a wrap. (As mentioned, "search" will lead you to a ton of threads on the topic.)

The site owner is firm on his decision to leave it to the discretion of the sellers. There are valid arguments on both sides, but it's moot at this point.
