Why have a Clip Point?

I have shied away from Clip Point knives, because the tip just looks too fragile. The Buck 110 folder is the one that screams fragility to me, but perhaps I am being too critical. Is there some advantage to the Clip Point design, other than piercing capabilities? I would like to hear from people more knowledgeable on the design than I am.

It gives you a finer point than a spear or drop point. But no free lunch. (Except for the knives made of forged Unobtanium 35 that are both easy to sharpen but highly abrasion-resistant.)

I used to think that a clip point was the greatest thing ever. Over time I have shifted to drop points. Stronger tips. YMMV.

if you need to pick a splinter out of yourself, a clip point works better than a drop point. also, I can't truly imagine breaking my 110 without doing something absurd with it. its stout.

They can add a lot to a combo

They are more frail but you get more precision for fine cuts.

The Buck 110 is one of the more frail clips that I've used but I do love it.

I don't use my knives for anything where I would notice any difference, so I just think they look the best. I don't mind drop points or swedge free spear points though.

I think one of the benefits of the clip point is that it is easier to gut/skin an animal without piercing anything you shouldn't, b/c of the finer/downswept point.
