The "Prime Directive" (for you Star Trek fans...:D) of this forum is the discussion of all things khukuris.

Bill has typically allowed discussion to "wander" to other subjects, including political and religious topics.

For this reason, this forum has enjoyed a great freedom, openness and frankness of discussion.

In no way, do I intend to put a damper on this freedom.

The links that have been removed were, in general, offensive.

It is your personal responsibility to edit and censure yourself to keep your discussion in line with the general consensus of the people on this forum.

If you can't do that, then I'll be happy to do it for you. ;)

Respectfully,

Dan

Dan, I for one don't think you need to explain yourself for moderating, although I do think it was nice of you to do so.
We all knew you would be an honest and fair moderator and you're doing the job that you were appointed too. Keep up the good work.:)

Yes, pretty much as Yvsa said. I wouldn't have removed the threads myself, but your decision is fine by me. There is a responsibility that those who are moderated support their moderator. You'll call some this way or that way- and life will go on.

I do think though, that; "What has this to do with Khukuries? Everything" is still the important part of the philosophy of this place called HI land. (Bill calls it a 'place") That is what makes our community different from almost all the forums on the net.

You're doing a great job.

But at the same time, just as in political life we have the responsibility to say what was just said, I will support you, but I wouldn't have done it myself. I would like to ditto that remark.

I think doing it is a good thing. Closing them. Lots of other places to discuss politics. Like www.ramanon.com ;)

I hope the posting of the UBB's and special deals kicks back in on a regular basis soon. I think it helps people stay on topic and I also think that it keeps more people hanging around the forum talking about khukuris. I notice when the special deals are scarce people go off topic more.

the threads weren't removed.....just closed. You can still read what was said.

If you feel the subject didn't get enough "closure", feel free to start another one. And hopefully, it will stay clean.

HD - did you miss the feeding frenzy 24-36 hrs. ago?

Do I perceive censorship? I think not! Tho some of the wanderings were amusing, generally it was a waste of my time. But it did give this forum a homey feeling. So, where do I stand? I dunno. This is a knife forum, Khukri's in particular. A new CO always means change, for better or for worse.Only time will tell.

Musta missed threads in mention, haven't been able to give much time to Cantina lately. But definitely respect your choice to close them, no need to explain yourself.

On OT(kinda), as I never got around to saying it before, congrats on the field promotion Dan. Knew it'd be you. As usual, Rusty and Uncle chose well. :)

Well, change is certainly here.
I think many people come to HI forum to talk, see their friends, maybe even argue and stand together. They fuss about Khukuries and Life and Happiness. Others come solely for the technical advice and to share khukuri related subjects. It's all good to me. A prime directive for a moderator may be different from the goals of a forumite. But I don't know. I'm just here, like a lot of you, and curious to see what direction the forum will go. That seems to be up to Bill, and lastly maybe Rusty and Dan, and us regulars too. But I don't even know that. It this a place or not? If so, what kind of place? WE never worred about that before too much.

From my personal side, I should tell my friends here that I've not been 'right' these last several days. I've been agitated and too easily upset- a sign of irregularity with my medication for depression.
I'm returning to my more normal self, a happier munk, who occasionally has a little fun and peace to bring to the table. For my small part, I think I've contributed to some of the disruption in this place when reactive, and that's something I hate to see, because I love khukuris and you guys too. Other people examine their own as their needs be.

Change is coming, change is here. We can't guarentee tomorow. If the forum becomes just another forum discussing knives, I won't spend as much time here, because I come for the friends, I come for the life. I don't know how others feel, and I don't know what Bill wants.

Once someone said, "What has this to do with Khkuries? Everything."

Does that make you a "chipper-munk"?

:D

:p :p :p

*groan* :footinmou

Damn those chipmunks!!! Hey, did you see what I said in the other thread about rattlesnakes? The adult squrriel is immune to venom. I wonder if chipmunks are? Too bad 'monks' aren't. (yes- I meant that spelling)

acronymfinder.com gives this:

MUNK = Funk, Metal and Punk (music genre)

I'd almost swear right now Bill's right about Karma and the things he believes. Funk metal and punk. lol! It's not where the circle meets the square, is it?
