Why I Love My SAK

I've carried a SAK since before I hit my teens. These days I carry a Victorinox SwissChamp XLT. For various occasions I also keep around a Manager II, Super Tinker, Adventurer, and WorkChamp XL, all Victorinox. And I don't count it as a SAK, but I also have a Victorinox SwissTool X.

SAKs are great tools! They are a little bulkier than most plier-type multi-tools, but they still pack a lot of functionality into the space. As a bonus, they are usually a bit lighter. Best of all, SAKs are universally recognized and have a positive reputation with just about everyone.

I have been carrying my Explorer now more than any other knife (other than my Rambler, which I allways have). It's the most useful knife I have, and combined with a stockman and my Leatherman, I am covered for almost any situation I find myself in.
I just bought a Pal a couple of weeks ago, and am impressed with it so far. Very slim profile, rides nice in the pocket, and cuts like a lightsaber.

I have carried SAK's since I was in 6th grade, even to school. I am carrying a Swisschamp now. It has been everywhere and has removed splinters, cut rope and branches for a makeshift shelter, fixed my old junker car in college and put together more things than I remember. I gotta agree that the blades are just about perfect for so many things and sharpen up real well. (The small one is perfect for opening packages.) I love this knife but have now found that I can't carry it in some Federal buildings because they measure the blade at over 2.5 inches.:( :barf: So I carry a Gerber compact and a Syderco Salsa there.;) I did manage to get a SAK in once when I asked the guard whether he would rather me take in the SAK or the Salsa. I wish Victorinox would make a Swisschamp with the Recruit length blades. I've tried the Wenger models but just like the Victorinox better. Oh yeah...a locking blade on the Swisschamp would be nice........

Yep, everyone should be carrying either a Pocket Pal or a Secretary.

It's so small and light and SUCH A GOOD CUTTER that it is a must.

SAKs are great when I don't need pliers. They make a nice change from my usual multitool selection. And of course, the main blades are awesome slicers. I'm not very skilled at sharpening and do a pretty mediocre job with most of my stuff, but SAKs are easy for me.

High utility, low maintenance, great value, low price, what more could we ask for?
