Why is HI better than the rest?

I've never bought a knife from Khukuri House. I don't plan to. I don't need to. Himilayan Imports meets my needs and with great customer service and a top-notch warranty. Shipping is included in the price, and it's fast. Yangdu is a pleasure to do business with.

However, I hate to think we can't even mention the name of "another company" over here. (Are you kidding me?) How else will we know what we're contrasting HI against?

Haha, thanks all for the feedback. however have no fear, i'm not ignorant ;) I've been forum trolling HI for about a year... i jsut havn't found a kuk yet. As it is i stumbled on KH quite by accident today, and just wanted to see what people have to say. Keep the feedback cmming :)

Don’t worry, a HI Khukuri will find you. That’s the difference between Himalayan Imports and others.

Kami Sherpa, Bill Martino, and Yangdu brought the utility and the high quality of the traditional Nepalese khukuri to the attention of the American public and to the world. True, a few knew before, having been exposed to the knives of the gurkhas, but for most they thought a khukuri was a cheap and valueless tourist knife. HI has served as a vanguard for the culture of Nepal.

There are other makers in Nepal that also represent that culture. There are other good knives that come from Nepal.

One of the ways HI continues to lead the way for Nepal is in quality control. Truly, there is a ways to go yet, but HI is renowned for its consistent quality and its guarantee.

My best wishes to the kamis of Nepal, wherever they are, and for whomever they work.

Namaste.

The short answer is, in this case, you get what you pay for. HI knives are better made. Most of the difference is going to be cosmetic but some will be in things that effect function and durability.

I have had a bunch of HIs and one KH kukris. The KH I had was fine. It was solid and was not a piece of junk. The fit and finish was nowhere near the level of HI though. Think of them as villager versions of the KI villagers.
