Why is Kershaw CQC-4KXL D2 value so high?

I was on Ebay looking at other stuff, but one of the random sale ads caught my eye. It was for a Kershaw Kershaw CQC-4KXL D2 value for $260ish. I have one that i bough new for $60ish. I did a search and there are many ads for that knife over $200.

What gives? Is it because it is discontinued, Emerson design or D2?

This is not a sale ad. I am not selling this knife.

Likely because it's discontinued.

IT is a very nice nice for $70, good size, good materials, etc. A little heavy and not quick to deploy. I can't see paying $200. If it was a true flipper like my ZT 0566, i would carry it more.

Thanks for the replies

On eBay, sellers can ask for the world. To find what current values are do an advanced search. Focus only on auction sales. Many of the sold knives were listed with a "best offer". Unfortunately eBay does not show what that offer was. They just show what the seller listed it at. So a seller can list a knife for $300 with a "best offer" option. The seller actually accepts an offer of $75, but the advanced search just shows the $300. Auction sales show more accurately what people want to pay for it at the date of the sale.

I’ve paid some ridiculous money on discontinued ZT and Kershaw knives.

I just bought 4 brand new perfect copies of 2038CFM390 Iridiums - 2 from Canada and 2 from Australia, lol.

I paid under MSRP for the actual knives but the shipping, tarrifs and wait time were rough.

But the 4 Precious’s are home safe and they are glorious.

I love the Iridium’s original blade shape vs the reverse Tanto.

The sellers are either confused about the value of a Kershaw Emerson, or they know the value and are hoping to cheat someone who thinks it’s a real Emerson.
they're not confused....once these were discontinued the prices started creeping up on ebay...once all the inventory was cleared out. it jumped up again. I watched this happen. this happens often on discontinued models of almost any knife......

Fair enough. It’s a ludicrous price for the knife, but I guess there really is a sucker born every minute.

It's a collab, look at their ZT line collabs, price really goes up!

Sometimes you just have to wait, for the right seller to come along also. There's one on the bay now, for $125, if anyone is looking.

The bay can be worse than AZCK when it comes to prices. A smart shopper, will shop around, for the best prices.

I carried a 6K for a year early into my knife journey. Really liked it on paper, but the stop pin ended up deforming from being waved open I assume. Kershaw sent a new one and the same thing a happened. These are well designed on paper, but the materials let them down in terms of use. I don't even mind 8Cr13, but it's the hardware material and the steel they use on the frame lock. I wallered out the stop pin hole as well.

Shame, because a well-made Kershaw Emerson would really simplify the "Best knife under $50" question.

I got a Com-Seven a few months ago and I think for my tastes it could be the perfect EDC Emerson.

I actually caught this guy during a flash sale the first time they showed it and it's one of my favorite EDCs of all time. It takes everything I liked about the 940 and Bugout and makes it more solid. Lightning in a bottle design from Kershaw. The handle, blade shape, axis lock placement and detent. It's all perfect.

Emerson collaborations are generally a waste of money IMHO, judging by my Kershaw CQC-8K. Get the real thing.

It truly is one of KAI’s best knives they’ve ever released. Kinda wish ZT would release a few “hyper-premium” versions of the Iridium. Or wish Kershaw would release more special edition Iridium Duralocks.

I disagree. At the time, the Zero Tolerance models were better Emersons than actual Emerson knives, and I'll stand on that. Better materials, better action, better blade steel, Emerson designs.

I'd agree, however, about the Emerson Kershaws. It still cracks me up that Emerson stated recently that all his knives have only ever been made in America, despite that being 100% false. The EmerShaws were all Chinese made.

Cmon, you know he was only talking about his own knives and not licensing out his designs. 😉

And I can’t disagree or argue with the fact that the zt emrsons were better made, they were also higher price points, some had ti scales, bearings etc so the comparison is a little unfair.

If you’re buying or an Emerson fan than you inow what you’re getting and what your paying for. One thing I love about my EKI’s is I’ve never hesitated to use them for anything needed, whether it’s cutting drywall, scraping battery acid or cutting absolutely anything needing to be cut. Can’t say that about the majority of my knives.

People love to criticize his qc, materials etc but his blade designs and Ergonomics have influenced just about every modern knife out there. That’s what I’m paying for and that I’ll never hesitate to use them for just about anything. For example the wave is perfect for prying open old dried up paint cans!

Some of his actual branded knives were also made elsewhere. But anyway, I digress!

These days, Emerson sells the most expensive $150 dollar knives imagineable. Fact is, I was a tremendous Emerson fan years ago. I am not these days for reasons that have nothing to do with the knives and I'll leave it at that. My commentary on those matters are searchable. ;)

I’m curious what drove ya away, I promise not to try to persuade you back. 😂

I think you’re right that maybe the reliant and bull shark may be made in taiwan. But that would be all I’m aware of. Also I have no recollection or reference to the statement you said he’s made but I’m also not denying that he did.

I will say I generally feel sorry for the hardcore Ernie fans because they have to spend at a minimum $1500 to get a ti frame lock. Which I couldn’t imagine doing so for a “custom” which in reality is very much a production knife.
