Why is Taichung so great?!

I think they have people that take great pride in what they do. You just can't take that away from them.

I get the same sense about them. They don't cut many/any corners. Golden produces great models, I'm not the least displeased with anything I've seen out of there. But they don't quite wow me like what I see out of Taichung. Wish we saw the same level of refinement from them.

Hey Cru5ader!!!
I'm telling you that this knife is absolutely amazing brother!!
It's a bit heavy, but carries that weight perfectly! It balances very well and feels lighter in the hand.
The build is so good you'll go nuts looking for any flaws.
Completely satisfied and impressed with it!!
In pocket today and cannot stop flicking this bad boy! Great action and the sound at lock up is addicting!

That's great to hear. :) I will have to put this one on my short list for consideration.

Just because you like a Taiwan model, doesn't mean it's higher quality. For example, the P'kal is made in Golden; its the best full flat grind of any Spyderco, rides like it's frictionless, locks like a vault, has the best Emerson wave in the world and is less than $200.

Interesting model. :) I don't doubt it's great. Not having any experience with it I can't speak to how it stacks up to comparably priced Taichung models - maybe someone else wants to chime in on that.

As I mentioned though, I have no doubt some of what comes out of Golden (and elsewhere) trumps some of Taichung's offerings. It just seems that by and large Taichung produces the highest quality.

I have a GB1 and a P'Kal and I gotta say, the f&f of the GB1 far exceeds that of the P'Kal. I don't disagree with what you say about the good points of the P'Kal (the FFG, how smooth it opens, the lock strength) but then you look at the bevels on the G10 and the cuting / stamping / whatever they do to make the backspace is just ugly compared to the f&f on the GB! The GB is a liner lock and it opens / locks just as smoothly and securely as the P'Kal which has a lock that completely disconnects contact with the blade when you operate it.
I've had a domino and a Southard too and theyye both up there with the GB, above the P'Kal (which I still own and love).

Hi Cru5ader,

It's always "the guy" that owns the factory that determines everything.

I just received my Slysz Bowie today. So far I'm digging it. Very well built and the best Spydie I've seen.

A spade's a spade. If the factories were switched....I feel like the same guys that are in denial about this would triumphantly claim that Golden's (Taiwan) models are clearly the best.

It's reality... The Taiwan facility is newer, with newer machines in the shop.......With believe it or not HUMAN BEINGS just like those in Golden that make the knives. They are expensive because of the quality. It may be even more expensive it they were made here (but not by much).

I think all the locations are starting to even out with consistent QC... Consistency.
