Why is the Case Trapperlock not considered a traditional?

I found this thread while I was looking for old posts on the Russlock. As has been said, a number of times, we need to have a line drawn as to what is and what isn't traditional. Frank and I try very hard to be reasonable, but the line is necessary.

The fact is that thumb studs and pocket clips don't make the cut. Maybe someday they will, but not today. Liner locks, like the Russlock, which I see as a friction folder (older then Methuselah) with a safety lock, have been accepted. You'll see traditional patterns with Micarta, G-10, glow in the dark stuff and all manner of bizarre materials and every new steel known to man in the Traditional Forum. We allow them.

We have a "Traditional and Modern Pairings" thread that sees a lot of posts. It gives the traditional guys a place to show what they carry that is more modern, as long as there is a traditional knife posted along with it. One of my favorite threads.

Basically if we didn't have a line, then the Traditional forum would have no reason for being. It would be a general knife discussion forum. We already have one of those.

There's one thing you can always do. Ask Frank or me if you have a question on what is appropriate. Leave a visitor message. Private Message or send an email. Neither of us bite. Ask around. Well maybe Frank does....

Don't bother to look for logical reasons in the Traditional forum. There are so many "exceptions" that it really comes down to what the Mods want. You just have to accept what the Mods say is acceptable. :) What is "acceptable" changes with moderator as well.

That certainly doesn't reflect my experience as a regular poster in the Traditional forum, where it seems to me things are very clear and consistent, with regular moderators who are also regular posters there.

Nic S, you say you were just asking a simple question, well you've had it answered. There has to be a line drawn somewhere in terms of what knives are discussed in Traditionals, and thumb studs cross that line. Why not just post about it in General?

This is posted in general, I had a question and it was answered my last reply was like 8 days ago. I said thanks and moved on. So telling me I had it answered and to post this in general is beating a dead horse.

Peregrin, Thanks for your reply. I was just curious as I found new interest in "traditional" styled blades. I think some people took my question the wrong way. Again thanks for clearing it up.
