why is the DOZIER D2 so cheap if it's - one of - best steel on the market ???

Bob Dozier knows how to lovingly make an excellent blade out of D2---the steel itself, his special heat treat, excellent edge geometry well suited to the knife's purpose, and his quality are all top-notch. I don't think that quality of his handmade knives can essentially be compared to those of the Kabar line. While he designed them---and this may give them the edge geometry---the manufacturing quality, heat treat, etc., used by Kabar, while possibly excellent, cannot duplicate Mr. Dozier's attention to detail.

The price you pay for true Dozier D2 is something around two hundred dollars---minimum---not the bargain prices you pay for his Kabar-manufactured folders. To receive true Dozier D2 with the Dr. D2 heat treat, you must order something from Bob. It might be more expensive, but it's certainly worth the money.

Bob's prices are insane. I have several of his fixed blades, and will try to snag several more. His edge retention is right up there as a gold standard to test other knives against. You have to handle one of his knives to experience the fit and finish. It's among the best that I have ever seen. He could probably double his prices if he wanted to. Right after I'm done buying them.... ;)
