Why is the SNG so expensive?

While the basic concept of the SnG is the same on all, there are many different configurations(and prices to go with them) . Some may like them all, some none and others one particular configuration. I do like the SnG, but don't like all configurations equally.

I fell in an SnG rabbit hole and came back out carrying this carrot-colored looking thing

These knives don't peel an apple or open an Amazon box any better than a $20 Kershaw does. But when buying a knife like this - and there are many makers we could name - what you are paying for is not the utility but the feel good factor. The ethereal stuff that makes your leg tingle. That is very subjective and very personal to the individual. Some people would pay $1,000 for Lady Gaga's turd, while others wouldn't get within 500' of it. It all depends on what makes your leg tingle and what doesn't.

So when one asks why a knife costs $450 or $800, when all it does is cut stuff, its the subjective not the objective that does it. Its the tingle, the feel good. Its not about the apple.

Thanks for the answer! I'm not interested in a bashing thread. I'm well aware of Mick's history. The SNG was one of the most comfortable knives I ever owned. I'd like to get another one but can't justify the new prices with the same materials.

If you can get in on a drop, they're reasonable (475-550 or so). The problem is they sell out VERY fast. There's usually a "brodeal" or two on instagram. On another note, all the new ones I've handled have never had a problem

I call that tingle the "Neato Factor".

Considering the cost of that knife, you'd think they could put scales on both sides. :(

And design it so it won’t develop lock rock

The radiused lock face hasn't been a thing for years, the newest models are not prone to lock rock

Considering the cost of that knife, you'd think they could put scales on both sides. :(

Im not sure what exactly you are talking about so Ill address what I think you mean. The G10 scale is a single piece milled from a block, it is very tough for how light it is. Ive pried open an apartment window while on duty with an SMF and it had no ill effects to the scale or any blade play develop.

Changed my SnG scale today with one from VZ. Had to drill out the new scale bolt holes which weren't opened all the way for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Really like the look and feel of the SnG with this scale

Your opinion was about MS, it had nothing to do with the knife.

If your intent is too troll the thread, I would suggest that you stay out of it.
I think a knife and that knife's maker cannot be separated.
If a forum member stated they were thinking of buying X knife, and you knew the maker of that knife was a convicted pedophile, wouldn't you inform the potential buyer as to where his money was going?

And I'm not saying the designer of the SNG is a pedophile...but he is a convicted felon and a liar and has claimed stolen valor.
Which doesn't sit well with veterans like myself...and shouldn't sit well with non vets either.

I've said it before, but I don't think they are a good design. It's essentially a 3" blade because of the huge choil. There are a lot better designed knives out there.

I'm of the same opinion on them. I never cared for them, they always looked boxy and rather ugly to me, always brought the phrase "Sharpened pry-bar" to mind. I dunno why they ever got popular to begin with, but hey, who am I to judge?

I could pick at the design all day, but I think I'll give the OP my best answer to his question.

As to why they still sell for so much: Very, very limited supply, very high demand. Basic economics, really. A lot of people want them badly enough to pay marked up prices for them, so people who are selling them mark them up.

If I had one, you can be sure I'd sell it at a marked up price if it were in good condition. Good way to make a quick buck.

i bought a SNG couple years ago..the fully orange coated one..blade,handles,all orange.
awesome,right?

except it came with only one bronze washer.
emailed Strider at least 10 times.no reply

had to contact the dealer i bought it from and 2 months later i got the missing washer in the mail.

also got a SJ75 with horrible vertical blade play and lockstick.
love the SJ75 design but quality was really bad

His point is that the topic of the man himself has been hashed, re-hashed, re-re-hashed in every single thread about Strider knives that comes up. You’ve been here a long time and have probably witnessed this yourself.

All of that education is out there for people researching the knives. Every single thread doesn’t have to take that turn.
