Why is the Victorinox Pioneer / Old Soldier your favorite above them all!

Thanks SAK Guy. The 79 took a fair amount of work, and it was easiest to pretty much convex it to get an edge onto it. As an aside, the 79 also has the older beveled curve inside the cap-lifter, so it grabs good on a fire steel and rips some sparks! the 01 is just stamped out, so the edges don't do the job as well.... maybe I should square them up and see if they are hard enough to strike?

Parkourdude, I only just got a farmer, so I don't know how much I'll carry it just yet. For urban carry I have yet to need a saw, so I would probably only carry it in the wilderness. I try to stick to a minimum just because if I'm not careful, I end up with an absurd number of knives. And since I normally have the rebar on me on work days, if I need there is a saw there.
Just got back from work, so leatherman rebar and style CS in a skinth on the belt, and a BK13 in the bag-o-doom. I've had days where I've gotten to the end and realized that on top of my work tools, one of the soldiers had crawled into a pocket and the huntsman was also hanging off the bag. a bit overkill on the little knives yes?
To be honest if the right one shows up, go ahead and grab it, you'll be glad you did, but the farmer is a great knife, and you aren't missing out by not having a pioneer. Variety is the spice of life as they say.

All this Pioneer talk is making me want one...
However I already have a Farmer.

Do you guys prefer the Pioneer over the Farmer?

I guess I could live without a saw, but then again why not carry a little more bulk for the saw? But the Pioneer just looks so sweet in a minimalist sense....

I don't prefer one over the other. The Pioneer is my favourite for daily carry, since it's a bit thinner. The Farmer is for days off and outdoor trips.

I tend to only have one knife and a few back ups of the same one for one role which in this case is an edc role. It keeps me on top of my knife-nut urges.

Me too!

You're a crazy man, a full fledged knife-nut! That is one very solid collection, consider me jealous!

I think I can justify my future purchases a little better thanks to you.

:D Thanks...I just never want to be without a Pioneer/Solder/Farmer.....

.....unfortunately, I also never want to be without a Swiss Champ, Champion, Explorer, Cybertool, Huntsman, Ranger, Climber, Mountaineer Outdoorsman, Troubleshooter etc, etc, etc. Someday I'll shoot a pic of all those together.

BTW, my accumulation is very very modest compared to really dedicated collectors.
