Why is there such a dislike of 440c?!?!?

Esee did mention coming out with a Model 4 in 440c. The pictures of the prototypes were pretty cool.

Anyways, I really like 440c steel and AUS steels when heat treated properly. I have a Buck 105 from 1974 made from 440c. Sure it's a little harder and brittler then other knives, but as a slicer, it is great! That knife takes a wicked edge and keeps it for a long time! My mom has the same knife, but made in 1967 or 1968, and she has no complaints either. Use those thin knives for the right jobs and they will surprise you. Just don't let them get very dull, or be prepared to spend some time sharpening. Touch them up every now and then and you're good to go.

Frankly, I would love to see more companies use AUS8 and 440c.

I am glad to have had this thread. I think I had built a small stigma to it. But hearing Andy give it a thumbs up - I think I am going to play around with it a bit.
