why is this so hard ??

As a maker's skill and demand increase, he should lower his prices? Materials, belts, epoxy, sandpaper, electricity, all increase in price pretty much every year. Not to mention stuff like groceries and beer!

Ok, fair point about demand and materials. I'm just saying this based on my own experience though. Starting out with pretty low end tools just makes it harder and more time consuming to cut, grind and sand stuff…Harder and more annoying job I’d like more money for it…Not wasting my time out there to come back with dirt.

There you go !! That's what ill do in a few years when I retire ! Make custom scales & kydex sheaths. Someone can order a custom made knife from one of you makers, a custom set of scales and a sheath from me ! A package deal !

There are a couple flaws with your plan. :) If I'm going to the trouble to make a knife, I'm going to put my handles on it - a big part of a maker's reputation is how well-constructed and comfortable his handles are.

And (at least with users like I make) it's tough to sell a knife without a sheath. Bouncing a handmade fixed-blade around to two or more different makers adds a lot of time and cost. That's honestly the only reason I got into making sheaths, although I enjoy it now.

Now if we're talking $1000+ art pieces, yeah they have hand-tooled super fancy leather sheaths made by someone else all the time.

When I first read the thread title, I thought this was meant for some Viagra or Enzyte forum?
"Seek medical attention for an erection lasting longer than 12.7 hours......" :D

I know I know I'm just thinking out loud.

Hey, it's not like it can't be done. There are lots of Becker fans out there with custom handles on and sheaths around their knives. I've built some of them :)
