Why isn't the 486 blade marked BUCK?

Just noticed today while using my custom 486/110 that Eric made up for me that the blade isn't marked BUCK, just 486 and USA.

Bit bothered by the fact the blade isn't marked BUCK. I like to show my EDC customs off to folks to educate them on all the Buck options out there. However, (by my own doings I know) I now have a Buck which isn't marked.

I know the 486 has Buck on the handle but why not the blade?

Are there other Buck blades out there that aren't marked? None pop into my limited knowledge. Anyone know why the 486's aren't marked?

It's strange, I looked at a bunch on eBay and none of the stock photos show the "Buck" marking, but in the catalog it shows it. My B&C 486 is stamped Buck.

I have both a 482 and a 486 and both do not say Buck on the blade. The only "Buck" is on the handle and an anvil on the pocket clip.

I've got an AG Vanguard with no markings whatsoever on it. You're not alone.

I have a Stag 475 Mentor fixed blade with no markings at all, just like Pdave.... I have a 110 Blade with no marking at all too... By friend has a 184 with a Damascus blade with no marking on it at all... So there out there... ITE ...

Wow that is strange,my AG vanguard has Buck USA on one side of the blade and Bos s30v on the other side. What a great fixed blade!

Yep, I love it so much I bought two of 'em. One's marked, the other isn't.

Mine isn't marked, and I don't care! It is one of my favorites. This pic is after a trip through the washer & the dryer..still clipped to my work pants pocket...and no rust

I also have washed mine but the noise in the dryer kept me from drying it completely. I also have no rust from the trip thru the washer.

Like Plumb said above the B&C 486, love that blade, carries the BUCK name proudly. My favorite carry, given several away, and I have multiple backups of this orange bucklite. Pictured above is my EDC and I couldn't be more tickled. Thank you kindly Buck.

I'm with you there. :thumbdn: I'm not a big fan of the Lite's but this is one of my favorites to use. It's about the easiest thumb studded knive to open that I own. I've also given a few to friends and relatives and without exception they love them. I've only had and bought the B&C versions until recently. I'm still waiting for my black handled one to show up (today?) and I'm curious to see if it's stamped Buck on the blade like it shows in the catalog.

My new one was just delivered and it has no Buck stamped on the blade. I'm disappointed in that and I'm curious as to why the decision was made not to stamp them. A cost cutting measure perhaps?

No "BUCK" on my black 486 blade. More of a sterile design vs the B&C.

I think, "which blade would look best tucked into clear scales (think salesman sample 110), the B&C 486 blade or the black 486 blade..." I'm not sure.

I like the idea of keeping the blade sterile if for no other reason than to minimize rust getting a foothold (the "BUCK" imprint is kinda like the nail nic on the 110 as it is hard to keep clean). But, on the other hand, that B&C blade is gorgeous.

That is a weird choice, to me anyway. My B&C knife is stamped BUCK, and the black handled one is not! Either way, no difference to me, they are great users ;)

They are all great users, most Bucks are.

I guess I should have gotten a B&C blade for my custom so that it said Buck on it for my own peace of mind.

My imagination fails me completely. I have no idea of which you speak. Just can't picture it. Can't do it. Uh uh. Nope. Not in me. But a photo might help. Yes, I think that would work. Yea. Uh huh. Pretty please.

How much of a problem did the thumb stud present?

Yeah, my bad, I went back and reread your post that its now on your sweet custom. I guess in that case I would prefer it to say BUCK, but then again, I wouldnt want that etch on the custom, so I think you did good ;) This probably is little to no comfort to you though, LOL :D
