Why isn't the 806 a regular production?

I searched here and the Benchmade forum and haven't found a straight answer, so I might as well just ask. Why isn't the 806 a regular production knife?

Everyone seems to love it and all the limited runs sold out quickly and go for super high prices on the secondary market.

I would love to get one but I can't afford to drop that much cash (there is one on an auction site for $900) and I think most are locked away in safe queen hell, unused and locked up.

If Benchmade produced them regularly I feel they would be a fairly good seller.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Short answer. It did not sell well when it was in production. Turns out it was the knife "everyone was waiting to get around to buy."

Limited runs have not sold that fast. As a matter of fact the last ones Knifeworks had, they had to push to clear out the BK ones.

That being said. I love the AFCK and any runs they make are great by me.

Makes no sense. Axis, black G10, add the old school handle medallion....:eek::thumbup:

Thanks for this answer. I haven't been into the forum thing in the past and have often missed out on the limited runs. Hopefully someone does a run soon. An 806 with a black blade and any premium steel would be good enough for me :)

Heck, I would be happy if any of those made it back around into, production. I agree that it is a dream knife, unless someone decides to reanimate one via dealer exclusive.

Agreed. The key to getting an 800 or 806 is having the right amount of money, at the right time and buying before it is gone

Hopefully there is an exclusive soon in my price range

I've been hoping for a regular production run of the AFCK for years.

Maybe one day we'll see one but until then keep hope alive!

I had the same hopes as everyone else here, but I realized they would probably never come to fruition so I finally scored an 806-1101 for a reasonable price. It arrives tomorrow, I'm very excited! Please no one tell me what they originally sold for from KW, I'm afraid to see what the secondary market has done to them. The price I paid was the best I've seen in a while one one and it was still probably $100 more than it was new.

I would be happier than a fat kid with cake with a 806/805 S30V and some red/black G10.

I would love a no frills black handled knife with a d2, s30v or 154cm blade. Nothing too fancy, just a solid user

Can someone tell me about ATS-34? Since BM probably isn't going to produce one anytime soon, that means the secondary market to buy an older model.

Thanks!

$900!!??? Sick. Both 806-1101 versions (satin and black) show up regularly, just be patient. Satins have been trading around $250 gen'ly but often less, blacks less still. And we're talking NIB, not beaters. Black wasn't popular at all-- why coat a stainless blade in the first place?

What folks ASK for knives has little bearing on what folks ('cept fools) pay....

"ATS-34-154-CM
ATS-34 was the hottest high-end stainless in the 1990s. 154-CM is the original American version, but for a long time was not manufactured to the high quality standards knifemakers expect, so knifemakers switched over to ATS-34. CPM is again making high-quality 154-CM, and some companies seeking to stick with American-made products (like Microtech) are using it. ATS-34 is a Hitachi product that is very, very similar to 154-CM. Normally hardened to around 60 Rc, it holds an edge very well and is tough enough even at that high hardness. Not as rust resistant as the 400 series above. Many custom makers use ATS-34, and Spyderco (in their high-end knives) and Benchmade are among the production companies that use it. Contrary to popular belief, both steels are manufactured through the Argon/Oxygen/Decarburization process (AOD), not vacuum remelted. Ref - ATS-34 vs. 154CM Steel Composition Comparison. "

Top of my head, I think they were around $180...

Whoops says you said not to tell you. ;)
