Why mark the bevel height?

I'm a very math oriented computer administrator. I like knowing my angles and heights. I do scribe the lines, as a guide to help ensure my grinds are even from side to side and as straight as I can make them. I am early in this journey and may change my mind in the future. That is part of the fun and journey. As a cook I tend to go by recipes and like to measure ingredients by the gram for newish recipes. For things I've made for decades I really don't need to. I can see this being the same.
