years ago my wifes girl friend asked her men men must carry knives, whats the point. She did not want her 15 or 16 year old son to carry even a pocket knife. I didn't have a good answer;why do men carry knives. Me I grew up around the outdoors and developed the habit of carrying A knife.

I carry knives, two at a time one for cutting, one for just in case. You don't have to be a man to appreciate knives. There's some great ones available these days too.

Why do women carry makeup in their purses? It's there just in case they need it while away from home. People (not just men) carry knives because you never know when you might need a blade, a blade is way more useful than makeup.

Um, okay. I guess it is only men who carry knives?

If you spend life trying to explain stuff to women you will not get much done and you will spend life frustrated.

Go down to the corner bar, get yourself a beer and say "forget about it", enjoy life.

I guess if you worked in an office building with a metal detector it would be a problem.

Well obviously if your job restricts you from carrying a knife and actually goes to the lengths of having a metal detector than you are not going to carry one. We are talking about why a person would CHOOSE not to carry a pocket knife.

For once, I was struggling with what to say....

At first I wanted to say "why not? I am MAN, hear me ROAR!".... I carry a knife because I love them, but mainly because I don't want to bite through miles of cardboard at work, and everything else I need to cut on a daily basis.

But, on the other hand, my wife carries a knife, as do lots of women. I don't know how many fellas on here have asked for a rec on a knife for their wife or girlfriend. Seems like quite a few to my recollection. I'd wager a good amount of all of us have women in our lives who carry knives. (Sometimes due to us getting them into it, sometimes just because they wanted one on their own)

So, um, I really don't know what to say. It's complicated man! I guess I should say having a wiener is not required to carry and enjoy knives. Saying "why do you men have to carry a knife?" is a stereotype.

Another highly enlightened point of view.

A pocket knife is a very useful tool that I believe every man or women would benefit from. Style and sizes to vary with taste and uses.

Men carry knives because we're smarter than women.

Thanky brother! I was really struggling with that one! My wife was right there next to me and I asked her for her thoughts. She said "that's just an old stereotype. Knives are for everyone of any sex, creed, color, religion, etc. to enjoy.".... That's my girl!

I guess my reply would be that I actually use a knife several times a day to cut various things. Everything from boxes, to tape, to opening letters, to "who-knows-what". I can't remember the last day when I didn't use one. It is much easier to carry a knife with me than to go find one when it is needed.

I don't know why "men" carry knives, but this individual man carries them because sometimes he needs to cut something and a knife is the appropriate tool for that. His wife also carries a knife, because she sometimes needs to cut things.

It's really that simple. :D
