Why No Access to Imperial Schrade Records for ALL??

"Mr Taylor gifted cabinet after cabinet of records to Mr Langston"....the same 'generous guy' who will give out nothing on this forum, and was granted custodianship by Mr Taylor?....I would rather have taken my chances with Mr Taylor and I for one apologise to Mr Taylor for a lot of the negativity I threw his way.<I still dont like the lack of quality of his knives>.
I suspected it was a sensitive issue however why continue to tug your collective forelocks to someone who will provide 'zilch' to the Schrade Collectors on this forum, under the guise of a 'personality clash' with 1 alright maybe now 2 people.
Waynorth I hear what you say mate but what you see is certainly not what we're getting ...I say it again all History owes to those that follow is the TRUTH. The horse is dead but you can still smell its last crapp...
If I came from Tennessee I would quite rightly take umbridge to Lt's statements on record..."Tennessee Mafia"....".all fleas infesting the same hound." etc etc. If I were Tennessee Codger I would have buried the hatchet allright!
You must understand these are my thoughts only and I have not posted these comments at anyone else's behest...do I ever sound like a person that would?I was shafted by Lt from the first moment I posted on here as an unknown new chum, and I think it was you Waynorth that sprung to my defence. I'm not going back to check in fact I'm no longer interested and going back and checking anything.......Hoo Roo
Back to hiding the skeletons in the closet. Hoo Roo

Larry,
For a person who wasn't a forum member before and during the disagreement,I think some of your statements are ridiculous and unreasonable!
For many years LT was the main source of Schrade information on this forum. He posted pictures of knives that we didn't know existed. He spent time and money trying to start a permanent museum in the Ellenville area and finally was permitted to set up a large temporary display of a portion of his collection.
I missed some of the postings to the thread that precipitated the blowup as I was in Oregon, visiting Dale. However, the problem occurred when Michael posted some new Schrade "facts" and LT asked what his source was.Michael refused to post an answer, likely because Bruce Voyles had posted a thread here previously, asking for information on Schrades for his(Voyles) upcoming Schrade book.
Since Michael had been planning a Schrade book and gathering info for a long time,I'm sure that he was unhappy about the Taylor/Voyles book on Schrades and wasn't about to post his source on this forum.
A majority of us forum members were not happy about it,either. Many of us were encouraging Michael and had sent him a lot of Schrade material that we had.Sending 200-250 large scans over "dialup" can take a lot of time.
However,if Michael didn't contact LT in private,to explain where he where/how his info came from;then I fault Michael. I'm sure that a lot of Michael's book material had come from LT or his forum posts.
As far as your position that any Schrade factory info that anybody has gathered should be available to you,I think that's arrogant!:thumbdn: :barf:
LT had posted here several times that he had salvaged the factory records as Taylor didn't want them and they were going to the "dump".
I can't understand your high regard for Taylor, after seeing the beginning of the reproduction of the old models, tang stamps, etc.Wait until they or SMKW are reproducing exact duplicates and see what that does to the Schrade collector's market.
One question that you should ask is why Phil and some other main users of the old Schrade forum have relocated to AAPK or don't post much here anymore. The old forum was like a home away from home for many of us.
BTW - you Aussie's have lost a lot of your gun owner's rights - when is your government going to start on your knives?
:)

Hey Guys, pull the saddle off this dead horse. Please, double please, don't let's start still another feud over this same worn subject. Continuing this will only serve to damage the forum and the things we all enjoy here so much.

Larry, Rich Langston did in fact salvage what would have other wise been hauled to a dump somewhere. In so doing it became his personal property and he has no obligation where it is concerned beyond what he deems necessary and right.

Michael had in my opinion, every right to not respond to the question as to his sources, many of which were given on a personal and confidential condition with regard to the donor. He did respond, as I recall in that manner, ie. "it was personal and confidential".

From that point it got progressively less tenable until we are where we are. Michael here, and Rich at AAPK.

Finally cultures breed different ideas of what is polite and accepted and what is not. I have found that my Aussie friends are a little more direct and to the point and that's okay, because my UK friends find us USA and Canuck guys much more direct and to the point as well. What I'm saying is that we all need to recognize this and take whatever is said for it's true meaning rather that the WAY it was said.

Let's all go back to being really good friends.

Paul

Paul,
Your right about burying the stinking horse.
However,I couldn't let somebody take the spurs to LT repeatedly without responding. I'm sort of well known as a "direct and personal" kind of guy when I've had enough.
I also appreciate people who say what they think and won't talk out of both sides of their mouth,so I don't have a grudge against Larry.I did want him to know some facts and background on the subject.
This forum sure has changed since that incident, but some of the old-timers still come here. Seems like most of us used to spend 3-4 hours a night here - some with a window also open on eBay to watch items.
It's still a good place to research and ask questions about Schrades !!
I just wish Michael would move faster on the that book,as I want to get a signed copy before I croak.
Take care, :D
Ron

Well said Ron & Paul.

As one who was here through the whole blow-up, it would benefit no one to dig up the whole unpleasant matter.

Michael has been very helpful to me personally. If you ask him a question he will give you the the answer to the best of his abilities.

LT had been very helpful & most generous to me as well. If you ask LT a question in the AAPK Knife Lore Forum you will get an answer to the best of his knowledge (very extensive knowledge), as he has lived the majority of his life in the shadow of the Schrade factory.

Michael's strong suit is with the technical info associated with the manufacture of Schrade knives. This is due in part to his manufacturing background. Also his research.

LT's strong suit is that for over 50 years he has lived in the area and personally knows 3 & 4 generations of Schrade cutlers form the same family. He has the ability of a great story teller to weave the human element in to the history, which makes it come alive. As a kid he fished behind the Schrade factory with the kids who's parents worked there.

There is room, even a need, for both types of history; Michael's technical info & LT's human history of the generations who made the knives we love.

If you act like a gentleman, treat either man with respect, they will answer any question you ask in their respective forum. But don't trash one or the other of them when you don't have a clue to how the hog ate the cabbage!

Paul

Salvaged???? He went through the Schrade building and pillaged records and property that were supposed to be in other's hands. That's a fact!

As far as his knowledge, yes he has a thorough knowledge of Schrade history, but he also has a tendency to make up facts and bully people to make it look like he is more knowledgeable or to get them to back down when they have a different opinion. Yeah, I know that's his personality and we should all feel sorry for him. The man didn't even know who was running Schrade at the end, so his rants about being "promised" that the collection would be kept together had no basis. I would have liked to have seen it kept as one also but oh well. I know more than one very knowledgeable former Schrade employee who won't post here anymore because of his actions. They probably don't know he's gone, but in many ways his damage still remains.

Go ahead guys, flame me you've done it before.

jesus guys, aint enough people left the forum mad because of this shit??? just let it go!! larry asked a question, one that maybe he didnt know all the facts on, but he asked. a simple "we wont discuss it" would have been fine. there is no need for us to flog each other over crap that happened a long time ago. i consider michael and LT both friends, they have agreed to disagree, so lets let the whole thing end here. i see that is gonna end up with more members leaving, more fighting, and more wasted forum space. lets stop acting like children and discuss knives!!! u are gonna get more info from here about schrades that anywhere else. everytime this drama from the past comes up, we lose more people! hell i could go to a bar every night and hear the same type arguments and i know they are a waste of time. at one time this forum felt like a special place to me, a place where a young guy like me could learn about the knives his daddy and grandfather carried, but now it feels like i am walking down a side road in iraq waiting for a bomb to go off. michael has provided us al with great info, and i for one appreciate his input and views, and LT has answered many questions i have had, and he has always been nice to me. so lets let this silly junk go and discuss knives, thats the topics of this forum, not who done who wrong. some of us need to quit being chumps and play ball, if not, i will give u my address and u can get out of knife collecting and send me your collections and start a collection of STAR MAGAZINE! lets go guys, lets discuss knives and keep our degrading of other members to ourselves. i like everyone here, i consider u all my friend, and i would really like this non-sense from the past to end!! someone should erase the past, delete that whole troublesome thread, and maybe the oldtimers will remember, but the rookies wont know about this blotch on the forum. lets go fellas, lets get it together and move on.

ok, back to knives!!! i got a imperial this past weekend, got it in a antique store in GA. nice handles, super sharp blade, and a good deal($3). but i have noticed a huge shortage of schrades lately. i dont know if it is because collecters are snatching them up or what, but there is definently a shortage here in sc. one pawnshop owner told me that he had 35 different schrades last month, and in that time they all sold for twice what u would pay on fleabay. has anyone else seen this in their area as well??

kris

BK 420, the records I'm talking about, I was given to understand were in Tennesee and in the posession of Stuart Taylor, or SMKW and were going to be disposed of and were then offered/given to Rich Langston FOB Tennesee and he paid to have them hauled back to New York. If I am wrong in my assumption, please correct me with factual information, but rather than start this crap up again here in the forum, please use my email pfl@cebridge.net to respond ,if you decide to.

Paul

Paul,Dale and Kris I respect your opinions.
My questions were considered Ron so I dont accept they are 'ridiculous' on THIS forum and I agree they maybe if I asked them on the OTHER forum which I am not involved with in any way.My undying loyalty cant be bought with a few free knives.
My questions may have been 'unreasonable' because reason went out the door when Lt spat the dummy and would have had everyone follow to AAPK,based on comments I have seen when I did look at the Schrade Threads.
I say it again it is a tragedy to us on THIS forum that Michael is hampered in his further research to help us because access is denied so we will never know how little or how much the Filing cabinets contained.
What was, is not now and if so many of you are so close to Lt could you not prevail 'on this generous guy',always willing to help. I think you all know the answer to that so why stick it up me when I raised the rather obvious., No hidden agendas from this quarter..more than a few in the other quarters.
I have always found it hard to accept uncharitable behaviour without a whimper. If you want me to leave if it brings his knowledge back then state it and I will do so. Easy for me to leave... it would take a big man indeed to come back and share with his friends.Hoo Roo

Larry, I do not and I feel no one else wants you to even consider leaving this forum. Hell, I count you as a friend. As you stated, It is what it is. Michael is here and LT is there. I now accept that for what it is and while I read some at AAPK, I rarely post there because I'm a little off dead center in favor of what goes on here. Having said that, I still won't challenge LT on the ownership of whatever records are out there. He can do with them whatever he likes, and in the original conflict, I came down on the side of Michael for the same reason. Michael's sources are Michael's and they are no one else's business.

Now let's read some more of those good posts from down under. Hoo Roo back at you!

Paul

Well said, sheathmaker. While we all enjoy collecting some of the finest knives made in the good old US of A, at the core, we're human beings first and sometimes human beings have blow ups, etc. Our demographics are no different than any other cut out of any other populace. Some folks get along fine and some don't for whatever reason. There are too many good things going on at both sites to concern ourselves about what could be. Eventually, I'd like to see it all in perfect harmony. Until then, do the best with what we've got to work with (and we've got a lot of incredible knowledge here). Life's too short to dance with ugly chicks after all. No offense meant to those that have or those that are

Now you pissed my girlfriend off Marc!

I thought this thread could use a little humor.

...My case rests your Honour. 34 Replies and 454 views in a few days.It is obviously more than passing interest to us all...which is what this was all about really..
Thawk ...That looks like my mother in law ugly enough..I mean oddly enough...and I always like to see the back of HER.....no dont post the picture mate.! Hoo Roo

Groannnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!
Yankee doodle dandy, right???

Looks like Cougar got to that picture before I could see it. Somehow I think I'm better off not knowing. Thanks Cougar, you may have saved me from a traumatic experience.

You are indeed lucky, Dave, to have Cougar looking out for your soul! You may never have gotten under. . . .errr, I mean over the trauma!

More like he would never have gotten OUT from under!
