Why no Adamas variants?

I know I'm not the only one wondering this, Why doesn't Benchmade produce another variant of the Adamas. I'd love to see it done in CPM-M4 or CPM-154. Perhaps they think people do not collect the Adamas like they do the Griptilians or 940 Series? Maybe they don't want to manufacture those large blades out of exotic steels? Could it be no one has ever thought to do it? I just hope when they finally do, it's not one of these one-per-dealer deals where they are in stock for a few seconds and then gone.

I have been saying this for years. Benchmade if you read this, there are many people out there that want a non coated, perhaps heavy stonewashed version in a different steel. It's one of the best heavy hard user knives ever made. If there was a non coated, corrosion resistant version of the adamas - i would buy another 2 of them to match the 2 i already have.

Exactly!!! This is been my biggest gripe with Benchmade in the past 2-3 years. It's like they made the most workhorse type of knife they possibly could, pumped it out in fixed and folder, with Black and Tan coats, then just washed their hands in the matter! I mean come on guys, you can't put something this nice out, and not give us some variants?!! I would settle for CPM-154 with a satin and heavy stonewash/blackwash, and be completely satisfied with that. And yes I know kershaw has the blackwash, but I just love it so much! God, this one of my hot button topics. Sorry for ranting, but seriously. Benchmade, do us a solid on this one!

They just came out with a new forum knife recently (Contego in CF and M390 I think). It think it has to do with which knives sell the most. For example, if a plain model sells 1000/year units because it is a popular model, it stands to reason that the variants will also sell well. If a main model sells 100/year, then the variants go down on the priority list. Seems to be a very practical business model. I could be wrong on this though.

Make it stonewashed Cpm154 and I'm definitely in.

This. The coating was a must for D2, which in my opinion is a finicky steel that discolors too easily in humid weather, but the beauty of the Adamas blade shape is somewhat understated because of it.

Benchmade could be the king of the big USA-tactical knife companies if they put out more sexy models like this as flat-out production items.

I have a hard time believing the Adamas has not been a great seller for them, have seen plenty that own them, I'd say it's done just as well as Contego if not better, so wtf.

That forum Contego is awesome. I hate the painful Jimping all over the liners on the regulars. Reason I still don't have one.

There needs to be a limited edition 275.

Are you reading this Benchmade?? we need Adamas and 943 variants just like you did the contego, 710 and 940, they would definitely sell.

id like a bigger one an xl version. 4.5 to 4.75" blade. the axis lock is strong, the handle is thick and its screaming for a bigger blade....but stonewashed and m390 or cts 204p.

Yeah they need to make some large models. But I guess their bread and butter is the small stuff.

I apologize if my comments were cause for confusion. I'm not saying that the forum knife was made because of the Contego's sales, but gave an example of of an exotic steel, large blade knife variant from BM which the OP was asking about. It's my understanding that they do a custom forum knife every year or so for BM forum members if they have enough interest and requests for certain features. I think they had a couple hundred of this model and sold out within minutes.

I know they have some pretty expensive limited edition gold class knives with exotic steels.

Additionally, some dealers come out with dealership BM exclusives with more exotic steels, e.g. the Knifeworks exclusive BM Contego in M390 or the KnivesShipsFree exclusive Axis Stryker II in M4 and carbon fiber:

scout321, wow that stryker in m4 and cf is awesome. completely missed that release, thanks for sharing.

michaelm466, yep i'd be all over that as well 3v, but i'd still like it to be an xl version of the adamas folder. wish list stuff i suppose......

One more, but I hesitate to mention it because I think the handle color is too "Halloween" for my tastes... Cutlery Shoppe exclusive BM Rift in S30V (also available without black coating):

Last mention although it has a liner lock instead of the Axis lock... the Benchmade 757 Shane Sibert Vicar has similar dimensions as the Adamas and is in S30V.
