Why no Charles May knives ?

I have some pics of the Skifa but I'll wait to post pics when I get the reworked one back. But here's my swamp oak. You can see while I didn't get him to do any contouring or rounding I did get him to take the sharp edges off of the sides.

Yeah I never thought about the time frame for one to be made, that would kinda suck having to wait that long !:(
The only knife maker I could wait that long for would be Scott Gossman, I'm determined to get one of his one day and if he happens to have retired by the time I can afford one I'll just have to drag him outta his rockin chair and back to his workshop !!!!!:D

charles may makes some great knives... i have noticed that there aren't too many around the forums these days... his wait time is pretty darn long these days... sheesh...
i almost ordered a knfe from charles some years back, but i opted for a gene ingram instead... gene and charles are good buddies and have very similar knife styles... i waited well over a year for this guy...:o

I have had up to four of his knives and they are among the best made knives I've encountered. His grinds are perfect and his D2 edge stays razor sharp forever. I also prefer a thicker handle for prolonged use but all the handles on mine are fine in this aspect. There are no hot spots and the handles are very maneuverable. My only problem with them is that they're so pretty I get all nervous about putting some character on them. Not to say I wont use them but I certainly won't go digging in the dirt with them.

I have been looking at Charles Mays website and he makes some awesome looking knives and yet it's very rare that I hear him mentioned on this forum !!!
I know his knives ain't cheap but neither are Busses, Fehrmans etc and they get mentioned, I just wondered why his knives weren't more popular ?

I think Charles makes beautiful knives. He and Gene Ingram make very similar knives, and they're a joy just to look at.

I probably own as many Charles May knives as anyone. I own the longest one and the shortest one made to date. (Shortest not pictured)

MTF3,

With a collection like that, I think you owe us some more pictures.

I've looked at Charles' site so many times I pretty much have all the pictures committed to memory, so it would be great to some new shots -- especially of the knives in action!

I just received 2 of his knives(big hand scandi and scandi trace) . His work is perfect ..
Pictures coming later.

I've had one of the FireAnt models on order for a few months (FireAnt w/dyed bone handles and mosaic pins). I should get it next spring.

Really looking forward to it.

I have held a few of his knives and have owned two.
Outstanding.

He is a class act. Know the model you want.
Fit/finish is very very good.
There is a reason for his backlog.;)
Also, his sheath work is very nice and does not get the recognition it deserves...

A far as the comments regarding thinner profile slabs... many makers who pride themselves on producing "using" knives employ this design. The Doziers, Kreins, Gene Ingrams (mentioned above), etc.. Many of these models are meant to ergoed (is that a word? :D) across the palm of the hand.

Most of the bushcraft knives fancied on this sub forum have the rounder thicker slabs.

That was my first thought looking at his knives...looks like Gene Ingram's stuff. I have a Gene Ingram as my "dress knife." I like it a lot and the D2 is a good steel for a small slicing tool.

I just got the OSK-1 ordered as pictured on his website.
In his email this morning, he did seem less than happy at my inquiry as to a 2 year wait. He wrote that his wait time is 17-18 months.
I can be patient.
