Why no factory micarta scales for BK14/24?

All the popular Becker models have a factory micarta option. I get that for the main series of knives BK2 etc, it's the same handle shape...so that's probably a little easier to manage in terms of production cost. But the tweeners have micarta, heck even the venerable BK11 has micarta for its unusual handle.

So why is there no factory micarta option for micarta scales for the BK14/24? I feel it deserves it. I have a couple, they're both begging for it. The plastic handles while quite functional just don't do it for me.

As big a seller as the BK14 is, I have to think micarta scales from the factory would sell like crazy. Am I wrong?

There are aftermarket options...sure. But I would really like a factory option here. Same design/dimensions as the plastic...but in the canvas micarta from Kabar/Becker that we've come to know and love.

Any chance at all this will ever be an option? Thanks in advance for any and all input.
 
I'd like to see some as well. Like you said, the tweeners and the 11 have theirs. Why not the 14/24?
 
Just pick up the esee izula micarta. It's better made and quality for the fraction of the price.

The izula micarta is fine for the the 14 but from what I understand, doesnt fit the 24.

I too would like to see some factory micarta options. My 24 could use it.

I hear what you're saying. I actually had a spare set of factory izula scales that I fit to my BK14, but honestly it's lacking and it's more or less a concession. They weren't meant for the BK14/24.


The "bikini" style micarta meant for the Izula aren't what the BK14 needs. It's just another situation of modifying something that wasn't intended for it.


The BK14/24 deserves its own set of factorty micarta scales....period. I see little excuse as to why not honestly. Next to the BK2....I have to think the BK14 is the next biggest seller in the BK line. Maybe I'm wrong. But from what I gauge here in the forums....seems to be the case. Micarta scales seem to me to be a no brainer. They're made for lesser selling knives in the line....so why not the BK14/24?

Uncle Ethan....with all due respect....can we make this happen sir?
 
The izula scales I've seen stopped short of the hole at the back of the handle. I'd want something that went all the way to the butt of the handle.

The divide over this will probably be big enough to cause a disturbance in the force. Any way to set up a vote between the two styles?

just have to do a little sanding to get them to fit right, I have a set on my 24..
 
If you can't wait for Kabar to make some 710 makes some nice micarta for the 14/24. The feel great and are thicker than the Kabar scales.

Hmm, thats news to me. I thought that the slight size difference in the 24 between the 14 made it a no-go for the 24. Got any pics with the Izula scales?
 
I measured the 14 and 24 with a vernier caliper (the results are in another thread on here) and there is virtually no difference in size. You have to get the older izula scales the izula II is completely different....

Here is a shot in the 24 with some custom G10 scales, I got super lucky and found them in the exchange.. They were made long before the 24 came out and they fit like they were made for the 24...

Kryptoglow makes some really cool scales for the 14/24 too. A few minutes in the sun and they glow like they're radioactive.

While I appreciate the replys, pics and suggestions....they're all very cool....it's not what I'm trying to accomplish.

What I'm hoping for here is something of a more official answer from the powers that be with Becker/KaBar.

Any chance we'll ever get some factory micarta for the BK14/24? I gotta think there's a market for it.

Those do look quite nice. Couple questions....are those the canvas or burlap...and what color exactly? The pics on 710's website aren't all that great in giving a clear picture when trying to make a purchase. Do they come with the stainless hardware as well?

That said....would still like a factory micarta option while I'm being the squeaky wheel. ;)
