Why no love for the Arete?

Did someone say sexy?!

Yep, I was smitten by the sexiness of the Bushboot design the first time I saw one, and have had two...and have plans for a couple more. Both of the ones I've had were wooden handled, and for my style of carrying the Bushboot and the way I sweat, I am wanting synthetic handles for the next two :)

I'm a sweater too but this one is more for gentlemanly duties where I'm not sweatin' too much. :p

I'll be on the lookout for a Bushboot with synth. handles for ya.

p.s. How's that little Izula working out for you?

It worked out fine for the project I needed it for, then in the process of trying not to freeze to death here, it was sold and went to Canada... Man, I have sold waaay too many knives this winter!

As soon as I recover some from all of the expenses this winter, I'll be hoping to find a tapered 5/32 in tuxedo or od and orange for me, and one in tapered with some really cool blue scales for the wife.

To the OP, sorry...we tend to suck at keeping a thread on topic around here, sorry to derail...

Back to talking about the Arete...I do need to try one, that tapered OD one that Phil has sure looks mighty fine!

I think the lack of total appeal of the Arete is the guy who designed it. THAT guy was a douchenozzle.

The Arête is Luca Brasi, Andy's Kephart is Bruno Tattaglia. Just saying.

Okay, so what's this I hear about the designer of the Arête?

Doesn't it though!

Ok come on man, can't you read?! It's just three posts up for Pete's sake! :p
Like Tal says, he just a total...what's that word he used again...oh yeah, a douchenozzle :D

Oh I can read text. I failed mind reading in high school though. I was asking to find out what makes the designer of the Arête a... well, you know what they said.

Hey Duder. TF himself designed the arete. We were just playing around.

Ah, lol, sorry I am a bit distracted today. What makes him a... hmmm, well, I think it is just that he enjoys being one every chance he gets ;)

Tal is the designer man :)

Okay, now I feel like Joe Doucher. Please forgive thee. I'm gonna go ahead and close my eyes and back out of this thread, never to return.

Sorry TF. No hard feelings huh?

I'm gonna go live in exile. If y'all need me, I'll be in the Dagobah system.

Lol, no call for all that man. the best thing about Tal...other than maybe his sheaths, is his sense of humor.

Lol.

I still would love to get my hands on one of these....ok two of these. Gotta have a scandi and a convex ;)

Thanks for that. But I shouldn't go around being so harsh when I don't know the full story. I was the harshest in this thread, perhaps I could have treaded a little more tactfully. Lesson learned.

Well that turned out comically. I like it.

Back to the Arête, I have one on the way. Been wanting to try one for a while.

Should there be trivia on other models not designed by Andy? Or are the answers too obvious?

Joe,

I loved this thread - and your comments made it even better. You made great comments. You said it was a lot like a Kephart - and even more so than the Keppy that Andy designed. I agree totally on both accounts.

I love the Kephart design - but God is it ugly. And a bit long to me. I love the spear point design for bush craft. What I wanted to do was make a less neutral handle (a bit coke bottled like the Woodlore) with a 4 inch blade and a spear point. With help in that thread I think I did that. But when you compare it to other designs Andy makes - she is still a bit homely.

That is great though - because I never designed her to be the best looking girl at the dance - but the kind of knife that simply took what you gave it and worked its ass off. I think the Arete does just that.

It may not sell as many as other designs - but you RARELY if ever see them come up for sale. THAT is the best compliment I can think of with my design and Andy's execution.

The way it came about (winning a contest) was just so damned fun as well. Really sold me on being a part of this particular community and making pants for Andy's designs.

If your words offended me, brother, I need to check the sand in my vag - because it is time to walk it off. ;)

Great thread - and just because I designed it does not mean anyone else coming late to this thread cannot tell their honest opinion of it. How can we improve things unless people are honest?

Kirkwood,

The Terrasaur is a Joe Flowers design. Second to the Arete it is the design I would love to own. His ideas were so similar to mine it was creepy. Similar intent. I love that knife. Hell - I would love to add an exposed tang to my knife at some point too!

There are a few others that have other designers... one might just be in the name of the knife as well. ;)

Talf likes to sheath Andy's sword? Wow...
Seriously the Arete is probably in my top three favorite knives. The one I own is gorgeous!
