Why no love for the Dragonfly?

The Dragonfly has long been one of my favorite Spyderco designs, but other than the stainless versions (still Dragonfly 1's for some reason) it's only available in that dreadful grayish-green G10.

It seems like practically every other design in their repertoire has had upgrades in the past couple of years, but not the venerable Dragonfly.

Why nothing in a nice blurple or black G10, or maybe carbon fiber? And how about a better steel? VG-10 is a fine steel, but it can't hold a candle to CTS-XHP or other modern supersteels.

(And made in Taiwan, because the Taiwanese Spydercos I've seen are better made than the Japanese one.)

There was one with Carbon Fiber a long time ago. There was also a Nishijin and ZDP model a couple of years ago. I still really regret not picking that one up. :( There is also a green frn and ZDP as well. There have also been sprints in HAP40 and Super Blue. There is also a yellow Salt version in H1.

I got my flame suit on so here goes; the Chaparral is twice the knife the Dragonfly wishes is was.

I'm not a big fan of FRN, but that's because of the looks.

A Dragonfly 2 in ZDP or Super Blue would be awesome if it came in carbon fiber or a better looking G10.

I doubt I'd be unhappy with a Chaparral, but I KNOW I'd love a better Dragonfly

Be glad the G-10 is still in production at all. It's not for the Delica or Endura.

I think generally the design is better suited with a lightweight handle material. I had a G-10 Dragonfly and found it to be too heavy for the size. The nice thing about the FRN model is it's barely over an ounce.

As others have mentioned, I think there are a fair number of variations. Generally there are less Seki sprints than Golden. And I don't think you'll ever see production move to Taiwan for any of the Seki models. It would be disrespectful to the Seki maker to take one of their models away and move it to another production facility.

There is a Titanium Damascus Delica and a Titanium Damascus Endura.

You never know, that could always be on the horizon?

The Nishin model didn't have a wire clip, meaning it was "not optimized" IMO. I agree, this knife deserves more variation and I would buy most of them

I keep hinting about the samething time to time on the forum, hoping Sal/Eric might see it :)

To me that just suggests that an linerless G-10, micarta, or carbon fiber would be perfect.

The early Calypsos were linerless and they were nice and slim.

I guess I don’t understand the question.
Like saying : Why no love for Angie Dickinson ?
saaaaay whaaaaaah ?

Frn is perfect for this knife . . . love the british racing green . . . freekin’ ZDP-189 (still available)

Maybe if Angie had a third arm or was six three tall . . . why hasn’t anyone come out with an Angie that has a third arm and is six three tall ?

Some things are best left as they are.

Oh yah . . . and I could not want for better quality or sharpness from the factory than THIS Seki City. Really nice and BLAZINGLY sharp, nice grind ! ! !

As I have said many times : One of the few knives I have that I did not want to reprofile it or put my own edge on it. I just started using it and smiling.

No love? Nah, I have 6 and another in my cart. I love the foliage green color of the G10 and that is why I bought it. I also have the Nishijin. Very lovely little knives.

Mine stays in the drawer and only really gets used at my computer desk. The first time I every carried it I bent the crap out of the clip - I don't like the wire clip at all.

No real complaints aside from the clip.
If I had a time machine I'd have a yellow SE version. :)

I'm just asking why we haven't seen the same kinds of upgrades and product updates for the Dragonfly as we have for the Delica, PM2, or other long-running models?

I don't like FRN. Nothing against as a material except I dislike its appearance. The fact FRN models come in a plethora of colors doesn't make them more attractive; it's still just molded plastic. (I'd like some of the colors in a different material. Dig the British Racing Green.)

The sole lined version of the Dragonfly 2 uses what is probably the least attractive color in the history of knives. The DF2 could be an awesome gentleman's knife in carbon fiber or black G-10, but nothing will make that green look classy.

Rit dye the G-10, the possibilities are endless! :) I saw a picture on here of one that somebody dyed blue, it looked great!

Yep! Coincidentally, I've been thinking about dyeing mine blue as well. I remembered seeing a pic of one that looked great so I searched for the thread. Turns out that it was T.L.E. Sharp that did the dye job to his G10 DF. I contacted him for some pointers and he was nice enough to give me some excellent tips. Hopefully, mine will turn out as nice as his did.

I have the G-10 ZDP version too. Nice little knife, but too small for my EDC needs. I know some who EDC this as a companion to a larger EDC like a Military, but my preference is to EDC one knife with about a 3.5" blade.
