Why No Military 2?

I just received my first PM2 (in M390!). I had a first gen para and I didnt like it for all the reasons they improved it, so it took me a while to get back around to getting the PM2.

So, my question is, Why has Spyderco not come out with a Military 2? I know the Military is extremely popular and a top seller for sure, but there are still some things that could be improved on. Why not apply some of the changes of the Para 2 to the Military? I think an improved Military with a larger lanyard hole and 4-direction clip mounting would be reasons enough without adding better ergo's.

I think the Spyderco team is working on one. It should feature a lock designed by Sal called the stop lock. No timeline on its arrival, but id advice you not to hold your breath...i think itll be a long time before it arrives.

Once you reach perfection, there really is no reason to keep trying to improve.

Its the same reason that I have no siblings.

While I appreciate a good design as much as the next guy, there is always room to improve. I'm not saying the Military is a bad knife, but a company as Spyderco should be looking ahead. I'm still looking over the stop-lock documents and drawings. The description is that of a lock that cannot and will not disengage under use, And that is a big claim. It looks promising, though.

It is a project that Sal has said they will get to, but there are lots of irons in the fire. One reason it's not at the top of the list is that there are a lot of us who think that it'd be hard to improve on the original, which I bet still sells very strongly. ;)

Its also worth remembering that tampering with a proven design can be dangerous. Mr. Sal and his comrades have pulled it off before with success (Delica, Endura, Para 2, etc.) but you only have one chance to do it right.

Just the addition of a 4 way clip would put one in my collection no questions asked. That's why I even held off on the cf/m390 sprint

Same here. I could live with tip down, but with so many other knives to choose from as it is, I can wait until this feature (hopefully) comes to light. And I know the stop lock is floating around in the ether, but I wish it could be fast-tracked with a comp lock (stretch out the PM2 and call it good). Military 1.5? Something to tide us over until the full-blown sequel?? ;)

Im down for a Military 2. IMO the 4 way pocket clip and a new lock design will make it a strong seller.

I must be an alien. :D I actually like the clip on the Military (and the original Para), and I'm left handed!

While I'm not left-handed, I do like the clip on the Military. I don't think I'd like tip up on such a large knife.

Tip up or tip down, either way, it would be nice to have the option to switch, no?

I bet if sales of the standard military weren't so good we would have seen a successor already. The more I think about it the more it makes sense.

If the standard model still sells and sprint runs are still going strong, why mess with success?..... That is until sales start to cool off in light of newer offerings, then in comes the military 2!

I think the PM2 was the cure to the issues with the original military, but knowing spyderco, they may redesign the military to make a military2 with improved features or something. Many people like liner over compression (im not one) so spyderco knows that and may come through with one

I don't think there needs to be that much changed. Just upgrade to the new larger screws like on the Paramilitary 2 and maybe the pivot bushing as well. I think the lock is fine but if the stop lock is good then I'm all for it.

This.

If they were to do anything I'd like a titanium clip looking exactly the same as the steel one they are currently using. Brushed dark grey finish would be perfect.

I would love a Military 2. There's a few things I'd like to see. A larger than tiny lanyard hole, a larger choil, larger thumbhole (not necessary), and 4 way clip. That, IMO, would be perfection.
