Why No Military 2?

If it ain't broke.......don't fix it!!!! Although I do love tip-up carry, I've gotten used to the Military and carrying it tip-down. Even if tip-up were an option, I don't think I could switch!!!

Oh, and the clip on the Military is by far the best for that particular knife. I love that clip!! I was sad to see it disappear from the Para2, but I understand why Sal and Eric changed it for that knife. I'm slowly getting used to the hourglass clip on my M390 P2......and slowly adjusting to carrying a Para tip-up.

I'm VERY happy with them as is, but a larger lanyard hole, option for tip up, and rounding off the edge's of the G10(like on the Para 2) is the only things I would want changed.

I love a liner lock, and hope if they ever do a lock change it will be one that is very easy to operate with one finger or thumb.

Basically, if they updated it like they updated the Para1, it would be perfect. I would probably carry it even more than my PM2.

I must be an alien. :D I actually like the clip on the Military (and the original Para), and I'm left handed!

I'm with you. Tip down feels more natural to me on a knife like the military. The military has also ruined me on deep carry clips. Hate 'em. I'm so used to the military's 1 inch or so of knife sticking out of my pocket to pinch when I deploy it.

I don't think there needs to be that much changed. Just upgrade to the new larger screws like on the Paramilitary 2 and maybe the pivot bushing as well. I think the lock is fine but if the stop lock is good then I'm all for it.

I couldn't have put it better myself. The Military is basically perfect, it's just a bit dated. Add the new features you mentioned, and I would buy another!

And a 4 way clip would kind of be a no-brainer too, although personally, I love the tip-down, triangle clips. I wish the P2 still used it, but it doesn't keep the knife from being one of the best around, or me from carrying it nearly every day.

The four way clip would actually require a possibly significant change in the Military - you'd need end to end metal liners, so weight would go up a little and the in-hand balance would change. I'm not saying these are deal-killers, but it would be different. On the other hand, the early ones only had a liner on one side, so bigger changes have definitely been made before.

hum or how to ruin a good design for a couple of holes, take the starmate reedition, superb design one nested liner on the lock side and basta. to adapt a 4 way clip on the new one they had to put full liners on both sides ... this would be a total deal breaker for me.

i mean there a re plenty of large folders with full liners on the market, the beauty of the milie is the nested construction, if you have to change that to put holes everywhere ... that woud be sad.

sorry for lefties, make more lefty sprint but no full liners on the Milie 2 please.

my 2 cents.

The Para-military 2 is 4-way capable with nested liners. I don't see why they'd have to change that for the Military.

don't know, why did they change that for the starmate ?

anyway i think ambidextrous tip down is already possible with the existing liners, but tip up isn't, they'll have to expand the liner toward the butt of the knife.

The Military liners are only part-length. They'd have to be made long enough to get to the aft end of the scales.

Correct, but again, that shouldn't prevent Spyderco from using nested liners. Full liners won't be necessary, just longer nested ones.

Correct also. I like it as it is, but the Military has had bigger changes in the past, so color me fossil. :) Non-nested full liners, like (say) a BM 710, would be a big change. Full-ish nested liners would seem far more likely, still a change, but if I were betting, I'd probably bet that way, notwithstanding my preference otherwise.

+1. I love the Military AS-IS.

I'd like to see the larger screws and lanyard hole incorporated into the current Military. I think a Para-Military2 XL would be interesting. We already have a Para-Military2 on steroids edition in the Superleaf.

Its also worth remembering that tampering with a proven design can be dangerous. Mr. Sal and his comrades have pulled it off before with success (Delica, Endura, Para 2, etc.) but you only have one chance to do it right.

I think this is the closest reason we have as to why it is taking so long. Consider that knives like the original Police have been out for nearly 30 years now, unchanged. The Buck 110 is, how old now? And still a good seller.
If the Military 2 is as prolific as the original, it will be around a very long time. I don't doubt that people a hundred years from now will be talking about their "Spyderco Military 2" in similar vein to talk of the 1911 right now, some things just never change. Not that pocket knives inspire people quite as much as hand guns, but the trend is there.

Once you reach perfection, there really is no reason to keep trying to improve.

Its the same reason that I have no siblings.

I love that!
I was going to say the same thing about the military being perfect.
The no siblings thing is AWESOME :D

Some Millies have the word "Military" written on the blade, and some don't.. so I was kinda under the impression that something might have already been updated on the model awhile back.. but I dunno... I'm not a Millie expert.. anyone know?

first gen had thinner G10 scales, and only one liner on the locking side, plain G10 on the other side. this along with a couple details like different jimping ....
