Many knife makers do not have oven and the required knowledge for HT different steel . Many knife makers send steel for HT in specialized shop and pay for transport and for HT ?Some steel have complicated HT process , particularly stainless steel . Keeping in mind that we have all conditions to cut , drill and grind hardened steel , I do not see why it would not work ? So clean and fast process for knife maker . I m no knife maker BUT I will buy right now a few meters of such steel ................ ?

IIRC, PJ Tomes used to make his "mid tech" knives from pre-hardened A2.

I think the issue is knives need a special heat treat for the most part compared to the indistury standard. So that means it would have to be knife makers or knife material suppliers doing the heat treat and then selling it. All that being said, I do sell hardened 15n20 from time to time. You just tell me the sizes you want and I cut and heat treat.
