Why not more Case CV?

Colonel Coon knives are made by Queen if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the info.
I heard that the name "Colonel Coon" is now owned by Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

You had me excited there for a sec. But given their price-range, Ka-Bar's Union brand knives seem targeted more at collectors. :(

They are kind of pricey.
Maybe once they've been on the market a while the prices will come down, at least somewhat. :)

Does anyone have a picture of the CV Red Bone?
The various pictures you can find online do a good job of showing this color. "Fire engine red" would be a good description. One that I have is fairly dark in the center areas, but fades to a milky pink at the edges where it meets up with the bolsters. Frankly, it's not a very complimentary color. And one may not look like the next; they're fairly inconsistent. The only red of theirs I really care for in their current lineup in the "pocket worn".

In fact, IMO most of Case's colors are pretty lurid. Some nice ideas, but they're almost all too bright, then they burn the bone black and the whole thing just looks like a mess. Of course, as a traditionalist, I'd be happy if all their knives were available in stag, "bonestag", or at least amber bone.

While I prefer CV to True-Sharp, my two Case TS are awesome cutters. My Sod Buster gets heavy duty use in the garden. I took me awhile to get the edge just right but since has been easy to maintain. My Mini-Trapper has always had a good edge. I have had one 1095 knife that was impossible to sharpen. It was a Moore Maker (Camillus). So having a carbon knife is no guarantee that it will perform.
I too have bought Queens for the carbon blades and dresser style (as compared to yellow plastic CV Cases).

Funny you should mention that.

I have a Moore Maker, the big stout trapper with one locking blade and nice bone scales...love the knife, but I never have been able to get the edge on it that I like. And getting an edge on a blade has never been a problem for me. Something about that steel just doesn't want to take an edge. I wondered if it was just me.

While I've been advised by Case's marketing director to expect some new patterns coming out in CV in the coming months, the bottom line is that CV represents a relatively small percentage of their overall sales. (Despite the humble yellow CV trapper being Case's single best selling knife.)

Blues, that just makes me sing. Can you get your friend to divulge a bit more, maybe patterns or handle material?:D

I, like many here, prefer CV; however Case's stainless has served me quite well as a user steel. My medium rosewood stockman is one of my favorites - takes a great edge and cuts very well.
I did just get a copperhead in CV in redbone and really, really like the knife. It will see much pocket-time.
