Why not more discussion about eye brand?

One of my treasures is the Eye Brand trapper that my father carried for ten years. It's at the top in this picture.

The base of their popularity in the U.S. seems to be Texas, I'm not sure why, but then things are different in Texas. My better half is Texan, and in visits back home, I do see a lot of Eye-Brand and Moore Maker in working mans hands.

Don't forget that back in time a lot of Germans settled in Texas, particularly the central part of it. That may explain the connection. The Moore Maker connection is obvious. And many in Texas think they are made there.

Sorry, didn't see that a similar response was already posted.

Here are a couple of not your everyday pieces:

Don't know about the masonic connection but here is a look at the two "eye" images:

Thanks for posting these pictures. I got my answer with the last photo, knife on the right. All of the symbols on that knife are from Freemasonry. Really cool to see.

Although this Carl Schlieper "Give-away Knife" looks the same like in the comment before, it is something very special for me. It was given me from the last owner of the Schlieper factory (Mr. Hanspeter Schlieper) himself, during a visit in his home, near Düsseldorf. More than 6 hours Mr. Schlieper told me interesting "stories" about the knife making "Schlieper" family, since the very beginning in the year of 1629. It was a real joy, to here all this historical things, from an old gentleman, who was a part of it a long time!
I'm very proud of my little beauty, believe me!

Great pics guys. I was given this one by Duncan :)

Well, Moore Maker is out of Matador, TX.

The old Eye Brand knives featured some really great carbon steel. Even the relatively recent ones aren't bad.

And of course the Moore Maker knives in recent years have had some nice pieces from both Queen and Camillus. (I can't speak to the quality of their other vendors from personal experience.)

My experience with Eye Brand has been very good. I was asked to make my rendition of this Eye Brand lockback and was impressed with the quality/fit and especially the nice thin grinds. (sorry, no pictures of the Eye Brand by itself.)

I realized I was lacking an Eye Brand trapper, so I ordered this one just now. The description says it's from the 1980s and in very good condition:

Does anyone have one made in china,or a link to any legitimate site that says that some of there line is made anywhere other than Germany.I want to be sure of what I'm buying.

If there is SOLINGEN stamped on the blade... it is made in Solingen (or a fake). But whithout SOLINGEN... it's made elsewhere and not a legal "German Eye"!

I think everyone understands how tang stamps work here,I'm asking about legimate eye brand knives made in china,do they exist or not,I'm am not finding any evidence that they do.

I understand your concern Matt.
There has been recent rumour about German knife companies or is it the government ? and the way in which terms are worded or interpreted in order to promote the "idea" of German manufacture when actually assembled offshore(and we all know where that is).
For example The term "Solingen Steel " does not mean the knife was made there by any means even if it is stamped or etched on to a blade.
I don't mean any disrespect to Germany nor China nor anywhere else but it seems like a corporate ploy to cash in on the name whilst increasing profit margin by cutting costs. Hey that's business.
Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware).

This one is supposedly from the 1980s. Aside from a few little marks on it it does look new, unused and unsharpened.

The clip blade rubs against the liners. There are minor gaps in the back springs that were slightly difficult to photograph. The blades look slightly warped, which I imagine is because they were hand made. The covers are attached very nicely with no gaps. The jigging is nice too. Some of the nickel silver pins extend slightly past the covers. The shield looks to be inlaid nicely.

I paid $65 shipped. Despite the flaws I feel like I got a pretty good deal. I'm thinking about sharpening this one up and carrying it regularly.

The blades could be "German made" but the knife assembled in China.
