Why Not Necropost?

Especially when that was the same advice as the last post 10 years ago.

2010 - Quench at 1475F and temper at 375F
2020 - I do it at 1475 and temper twice at 375, too.

I know this post is 4 hours old, but I was just curious if anybody quenches at 1475F and tempers twice at 375F? I'm thinking about quenching at 1475F and tempering twice and 375. Sorry for bringing this back up, but I tried searching and couldn't find anything.

In a lighter side....I just want to point out that I saw Stacey adding information to a necropost a few days ago! :0

And that is why it is hysterical sometimes:D

I was like, "YES! This was too tempting for Stacey and he can't resist!!!"

I think this has broken the dam and now it going to be the wild west of necroposting now that the moderator has gone to the dark side! :)

I’m shocked that you don't receive any type of compensation for your time spent here babysitting. If it was a free forum and what not then I could understand but a lot of us pay good money to be here plus all the ad revenue. I do know server expenses can get really crazy but this appears to be a business so I’m kinda shocked on all the free help it gets.

in other news I don’t know if auto locking threads that are 6 months old is all the great. Hell I have a few of mine I should go back and finish the update on the build. I normally don’t mind how it’s running right now. I personally think the necropost rule comes from a place of forcing the forum to stay alive. If old topics where just regurgitated over and over non stop then I think this forum would die a slow and painful death. This rule forces people to ask the same question or post on the same topic so new threads are always coming up. So from a business standpoint I understand.

Here's an argument in favor of the benefits necroposting: the first thread I created on BF (question about 2-brick forges) was a response to an earlier thread (that I didn't want to violate the rules around here and necropost on). Now, if someone finds that earlier thread, there's no obvious link to the additional discussion in the new thread. In my searching here for various things, I found that this was common - lots of definitive older threads, but also lots of obsolete older threads, and it's not always very clear to a newbie how to sort those out. There's a tremendous amount of valuable information on here, but does take some work to make sense of it.

Yeah, I was surprised by that too. I've moderated forums before, and it can be a lot of work. I didn't get paid, but those forums didn't charge anybody for membership, either.
