Why Not Snickers?

Phatch, you should have eaten more often then, you see, there is always an 'up side' :D

I dont disagree that the Snickers bar is pretty good at covering all the bases when you consider how easily they are obtained.

chrisaloia, If I came off sounding like a smart A$$ I apologise, it wasnt my intent.

Phil, oatmeal is mainly carbs, and thus will only last 2-3 hours. It is trivial to solve that problem however, just mix in 1-2 eggs and some heavy cream. Now it is balanced with carbs, protein and fat.

As for snickers, most candy bars are high in trans-fats, due to being partially hydrognated (to make them resistant to melting). Trans-fats are linked to a host of health problems, and bans have taken place in several countries and restrictions elsewhere.

If you really want some kind of bar, it is trivial to make your own, there are lots of recipes on the net, use coconut oil / meat for the fatty base as it is the most stable fat, plus it has a host of other health benefits in a survival situation (anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, etc.).

It was high school. My mom was cookin', school didn't want you eating.

History.

I just brought it up as I didn't understand Temper's point about oatmeal very well based on my experience, especially for bigger kids.

temper,

Thanks for the clarification. Though some nutritionist speak can be hard to understand it is good to have'em around.

I shoot myself in the vein with some morphine and then eat a moonpie... I get pure sugar energy and the slowed metabolism keeps it going all day...

:D

I read quite a few books written by ex-SAS. It was surprise to me to read that most of them usually eat Mars and Snickers during excersises. But I thought: why not meat, a piece of meat the same size as Snickers? Shepherds live on meat all the time. Once boiled, meat is tasty even cold and should have a lot of calories, particularly with fatty parts. In relatively cold areas like mountains you can have cooked meat for a few days and it won't spoil. Or sausages, some can last even longer. What do you think?
Regards,

Don't really know if I'm right or wrong. During a trip to England I found that English made MARS bars were more like USA made MILKY WAY bars. Don't know how the snickers compare to USA made.
Not real important information, just interesting. <><

Meat isn't a great source of energy as your body doesn't burn it for fuel well. It also raises needs for water consumption to filter out the by products of the catabolism so generally isn't the greatest survival foods. Fatty / meat mixtures however are a different story, hence the traditional saturated fat / meat mixtures commonly used.

That is why the western explorerers carried bacon and biscuit makings, a great combination BEFORE they loaded up the bacon with the nitrates.
