There are examples where people have used a serrated edge to cut through steel reinforced rope (or should I say cable). The blade was trashed afterwards but I doubed that you would be able to do that with a PE. So in rescue and marine knifes, I can definitely see a use for serations. The combo edge allows you to always have serrations "in a pinch", even if many EDC tasks are better handled by a PE. Personally I don't care much for them. I go with Cliff here. I'd rather carry two knifes....or a Dyad
