Why particular tradition knife pattern appeals to you

My tastes seem to move around some. And thanks to this forum, I have come to know patterns I had never met. I have been moving toward smaller knives it seems since I got here although 3-1/4 <--> 3-3/4" has been my sweet spot and still is. But there are exceptions especially on the smaller end as I have become quite fond of mini trappers, sway back jacks, mini copperheads, and even peanuts. I can't quite bring myself to the tiny trapper yet though. For me fit in the hand (mine) and blade shapes are what attract me to specific patterns. I am crazy about Wharncliffes. And stag and pearls.

And chocolate micarta.

Canoes and peanuts are my favorites followed by barlows some whittlers. Then why am I carrying a jack knife?

Stockman at work for me due to the different blade types and next would be the Trapper for hunting and fishing. This place has caused me to try peanuts, the 2009 and 2010 BF knife patterns and all is well but still like the Stockman’s.

I've found that the longer I'm involved with knives, the more patterns appeal to me. Not a fan of Peanuts, but I do like the various Trappers.

I've always liked the Stiletto pattern, but all the ones I've ever seen were just so poorly made. My most recent purchase has been a Sunfish...a big brute of a knife. Should be a workhorse.

I love Canoes and Barlows as pattern. I got plenty Trappers too but these days I carry Canoe, Gec Toothpick or GEC Congress.

I've found out that some makers nail pattern so well that I love that knife though I wouldn't like the pattern else. GEC Toothpick is one of them.

While I'm still new to slipjoints, I'm really digging the Canoe pattern. I've also always liked the Sunfish pattern.

As I've mentioned in another thread, I have a Rough Rider Canoe that is not a real great knife...I don't like the scales. Blades are fine. It would make a good beater. I don't like Canoes...it's the only one I have. I don't think it's ever cut so much as a thread.

I'd be happy to give it to someone who would use it. You want it sqoon? Or anybody else? I'll mail it out no strings...or if you want to trade a cheapie you don't like that could be fun, too.

I plan to give away a better knife contest-style eventually, but this RR is just gathering dust. Let me know.

heh,
as a newbie to traditional knives, if you want to donate a canoe for me to check it out
who am i to turn you away from ditching a knife you dont like :D

Hmmm...I think you have to pay the ten bucks for PM. I got your visitor message though. You can leave me an email there and I'll erase it ASAP.

ok done.
its weird, i've received an PM before. anyways, we are getting off topic.

back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Single blade clippoint in a 3 3/4" - 4 1/4" frame. I have been collecting a while, and it has taken me quite some time to realise this :D:D

I do like a good large sodbuster or daddy barlow though

But my next buy will be a moose - defnit

The more I play around with different traditional patterns the more I'm drawn to the scouts. I just got my hands on a Case Junior Scout and have been really enjoying it. I would love to stumble across an AG Russell Premium Scout in stag.

The Harness Jack is an old favorite, and I have always loved Copperheads (gotta try a mini). I am really digging the Congress now, too.

In find my self attracted to SPEY BLADES more and more each day
Not sure why
I guess I like the way they cut:D

Getting quite excited by the outside chance of the forum knife being a harness jack

I used to be a HUGE Stockman fan. The Stockman, to me, has always SCREAMED traditional. Anytime I think "Slippie", I think of a Stockman. However, I was never a big fan of the three blades. I just didn't have the need for a third blade. I always chose a two blade knife, like a Canoe, or Peanut. I love smaller knives like the Peanut, and for a long time, it was my favorite. However, ever since I was introduced to the small Stockman, I have returned to my first love. On a small, Peanut sized knife, which my Schrade 108OT is, the third blade makes a bit more sense. Why? Uhm............. I don't know, honestly, but a small Stockman suites me better then a larger one. It is small enough to use in an office setting without raising an eyebrow, but still gives you a whole lot of cutting ability, that is all out of proportion to it's size.
The small Stockman has become my new "Peanut".
Go figure.
