Why SAK scissors?

Meh, I've never needed the scissors. Nose hairs get yanked, hang nails get trimmed with the knife, and duct tape works better on blisters then mole skin. They can be nice to have but I don't miss them when I don't have them.

Hell, I don't need any of that sissy stuff, either. No razor blade for me, I just pound in my whiskers with a hammer and bite them off inside. Don't need a toothbrush either, just use a rock. You don't want to know what I use for toilet paper.

Okay, I've caved. I ordered a SAK Rambler. It's the smallest knife I know of that has scissors as well as the other essential (for me) tools (blade, screwdriver, bottle opener).

Try one for a while, and I bet you'll be hooked.

I keep three pair of scissors in the house: Gerber titanium nitride coated shears in my desk, some cheapies in the kitchen drawer, and more shears in the garage.

But if I just need to do some light-duty cutting, I use the SAK ones and save walking back and forth.

Cutting a straight line with a blade is fine, if you have a backer and a straightedge handy. (which I rarely do)

I think a lot of use use our SAKs to save time and walking. We know where proper tools are, but why go to the trouble of getting them if it is just a quick job?

I use mine for:

- nose hairs
- loose threads on clothes
- de-tagging clothes and bags
- clipping articles
- clipping fingernails when I'm on the go and forgot to do it at home

There are certain things the scissors can do that a knife can also do. But there are also some things that scissors are clearly superior for.

The SAK is also good when you are not at home and don't have access to the various tools that may be the 'best' for the job. You notice a loose thread or that one of your fingernails need a trim and you can just pull the SAK from your pocket and attend to the task then & there.
I have plenty of good tools at home, but when I'm out and need a sharp knife or a screwdriver or a pair of scissors or . . . well, then I've always got my SAK on me.

This is the exact beauty of a sak. It's with you!

I don't know how many times I've been out someplace, with just what's in my pockets, and I've needed a small tool for some little problem. Yes, I have a tool chest at home with all kinds of screw drivers, and snips, but the sak is in my pocket. It's right there with me. It may not be the best tool, but like the one eye man who is king in the land of the blind, a sak is better than nothing. When my dog has a thorn down inbetween the pads of her paw, or I need a scissors, or a small tool that will handle a phillips screw, my little classic is there on my keyring. Since it's mounted right on my keyring, I literally can't leave home without it.

Carl.

I use SAK scissors all the time,I find them to be a very useful tool.Uh,I Vic Ramblers don't have scissors.Did you mean a Vic Classic?

Here's my Rambler, I generally prefer a little larger blade, but it's great for light carry. I put the para cord lanyard on to extend the handle and to help find it in the pocket.

I purchased a used Vic Classic and carry it on my keyring. I have to say, I use the scissors quite a bit now that I have them. I use them to cut heat shrink tubing at work all the time. I neatly cut open granola bar bags so I can use them to store my apple core on a hike. They also come in handy for an emergency nail trim. Call me a scissors convert.

The classic is a great little knife. It gets the lion's share of work done while my Buck 309 stays in my pocket.

I thought that I will never use SAK scissors, but now I see that they are very useful. I cut everything: paper, plastic, textile, nylon, leather, etc.

Perhaps the pliers instead of scissors useful.
Mechanic I could not find, so I bought a Climber.

My bad:o,I have a Classic and a Rally then.I must locate a Rambler,I like the scissor and bottle opener combo.Does'nt the Manager have that combo on it also?

Sometimes, a Spyderco leaf shaped knife can be dangerous around cutting fabric. The SAK scissors are safer to use around fabrics and other delicate task than knives.

Also, it's proved most serviceable and non-threatening to the ladies, cutting off an odd thread or piece of paper here and there where you wouldn't want to brandish a blade - but personal grooming is best done with proper tools at home :-)

I almost never used the scissors on my Rambler, so I gave it to my daughter. I prefer the Rally.

Well, I own about 20 SAKs. Most of them have scissors. In my work I have to leave my home for a couple of days and staying in barracs or low-bugdet-hotels. When there´s anything to cut, like nosehair, threads from clothes, fingernails or whatever. I like theese scissors.

Kind regards

Everyone uses different tools, in all my years of owning SAKS (and it's quite a few) I have never used the awl, I am sure some people love it, but I never have. I do use the scissors all the time though.
