Why should I pay to be a Knifemaker (or other premium member)?

I would like to also add that paying does help support this forum. For the cost that's required, the wealth of knowledge from tried and true experienced makers is well worth it. I feel I've made alot of friends here and also feel honored to be a part of this community. I hope to meet some of you at the Blade show this year.

I'd hate to think we scared you away, Trick.

Give us another chance, friend.

Those cheeks are so shiney my eyes hurt. Then again, it wouldn't take shiney for that image to burn.

Nice a$$, Dan! ;)

the rest that I removed doesn't matter. no one gets forced to be here...........

I may have missed something, what with trick deleting most of his prior posts, but this thread comes across as a "pity post".

If you don't want to be a paid member, don't, why make a big production out of it. Are you looking for a reason to justify not buying a membership? If you are, it's not necessary.

Yes....a real pity.....for all involved.

shouldn't this be in the "other forum" by now?

Who knows?
Anyway, before that happens, everyone has said their piece, except for me, so here it goes.
I'm lazy, love this forum, trust most of yall, and have found a community. I feel that the reason I'm here, is because it is free to get in, and because of the wealth of knowledge (and characters for that matter). I choose not to pay, I choose to only read the o/t. My choice, no elses. I'm just glad that it isn't shop talk I have to pay for.

I agree. Send this to O/T hell, right above^^. ;)

Trick doesn't want to pay to read the O/T forum, and I've seen one post that he forgot to erase, so far, where he wants to be let in for free, while the rest of us pay for any benifits derived, so he continues to post O/T threads here in Shoptalk.
Very selfish, I'd say.

He can always go read the Community forum. Almost everything there is non knife related, and that's what it's for. No membership required. :)

Edited to add; here's a copy of the post referenced above. He couldn't get to this one to erase it(he's erasing "all" his posts, and it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes;) ), as Spark had locked it. It's called "Membership", here in Shoptalk.

Quote from a post by Trick!
"What are you talking about? :D
I understand that now. And I can very much see that if I had knives to sell and hopefully will someday.
But I want in the off topic forum!!! :("

I don't think we need to beat up on Trick. Spark said it was a valid question. And as for posting the question here, Trick likely did so because he can't (yet) post in the O/T forum. - Jim

Wow Boy have I been living in a Fog I hand no idea that to participate in this forum that I should pay my way and I have not been I feel as though I have stole from some one I have to aplgize to someone , had i known that this was what it takes to be able to post pictures sale knives get get excepted in the ot forums I would pay with out a blink boy I have been shearing with people like myself and getting information from paying members I feel ashamed and I wonder if the other none paying members feel the same way.
I hope they don’t stop posting And if they do for what ever reason that it would make a difference probably not I wonder if the none paying members don’t buy or support the paying members much anyway what do you think , grinders, tools ,knives, supples, help ,prayers, presses ,hammers, handle material ,knowledge in the craft and passing it on and helping .
I think the ot fine and I understand why its being formed as it needed to be i would think if you want to keep the peace would be that the ot not be accessible At All for them to even read the none paying members like myself . that way you want get (the good o boy syndrom )that i think is trying to form its self and we all know how hard that is to overcome groups like us -- the tone of this tread , bu reading and not being able to respond will be undue and perceived as an the good ol boys club as it is they all good people and if they feel they need a place entertain themselfs and that’s fine ,high jacking I think was the cause of this place and god know none paying members never high jack a thread this type of action make me feel like an outcast so im paying .
(outcast) reading and not being to respond if you don’t pay you need to move on im guilty im sorry you bet ill have a check in the meal tomorrow .

If I were not a knife maker I don't know. I do know that I originally decided to subscribe because I felt a want to because of all the help I received from us here in my beginning. After I had gotten, with their help, to a point where I was selling a few I decided to join up. Now I will continue for more obvious reasons (I am full time and therefore why not). For a casual visitor: if me I doubt I would subscribe. If that were the case I would be paying dues to several forums and I do not. This is the only one and it is only because of Shop Talk.

Nope, not a problem with paying the $10. Kit and Spark's answers were great, have no problem with any of that. My problem was Jeff's post that he changed "To sum it up. I'm a knifemaker, and I am interested in the thoughts and ideas of my fellow knifemakers. The O/T forum is for those of us who want to consort with the rest of our fellowship. No offence, Trick, but if you aren't a knifemaker, then the o/t thread isn't for you anyway. Please don't feel hurt." Basically saying that he doesn't want anything to do with me because I am not part of the fellowship. So basically I am not worthy and anything that I have to say is useless so I deleted what I have been saying. It's not like anyone got any use out of it anyway plus I am saving valuable bandwidth by deleting my pictures so it is win win for you guys. I don't rightly give a flying f now. I just thought I had been here long enough that I was more a part of the family than I obviously am.

A little touchy it seems. Hey Trick the best of the best is here. I of all am hot headed at some times and have unfortunately shown it here. The fact is though that the best I have met are here. Just like some here have for me in recent past, take a breath and re-think it - please. If you'll just think about it enough it is easy to understand why certain things are reserved for paying members. After all this forum is not government provided. This thing is a pain in the ass for someone especially and for a group of moderaters and technical support to keep running and pay for. Its not like they make their living by walking out to the mail box once a week or so to pick up the welfare check. There is no way my feelings would be hurt if I was locked out of any part they chose if I was not willing to belly up and pay. You should give that some thought. How much would you be willing to give for free if you had to completely supprt this forum?

One last thing. Once upon a time after I moved to Virginia I mistakenly complained about the politics there. The answer I got was "you don't have any hooks in your ass so leave if you don't like it". Pretty good advise I thought. The fact is the politics there was a lot better than from where I had left so I stayed.

That is NOT what Jeff said Trick. It is simply a matter of 'paying your dues' if you wish to participate in the Knifemaker OT forum.

The exchange of vital info for knifemakers is always available to everyone!!

Want to be part of the Knifemaker Fellowship here, just contribute a few bucks................

Then you can read some of Kit's jokes!!!

to pay for my upgrade do i need to pay with a credit card i really don’t want to put that information over the internet cant i be billed

Trick don't feel that way Please we I'm sure most all will agree we love to have everyone here to help. I paid solely because I know it cost money to run this place
I think in the last 4 years I've posted 2 knives for sale ?
so that's not the reason I'm here. don't feel to fit in you have to pay anything you don't.. but if you do pay you'll get the same perks to use as the other that do pay , if you care to use them. but it's like reading a mag in a store.. you don't HAVE to buy it,, but if you read the most of it you really need to buy it then.. it's just the right thing to do..that is to say if you want the whole thing then you do have to pay for it.. but as it's set up you can fit in just as the others there that have chose that course..
