Why should I upgrade my Leatherman?

5K,

I have the same Leatherman you do. It was gifted to me in Sept 1994 and it's been on my belt every day since then. I've used it countless times for everything imaginable. It's still getting the job done and I've had no reason to think of replacing it or adding another. If it ain't broke... :D

I personally wouldn't buy another Multitool that doesn't have locking tools and one handed opening of the main blades .
The older style ones are fine tools please don't get me wrong , but for my world and my requirements the Surge - Wave are the way to go .

Ken

Ps - I must admit those old style leather " box " sheaths are to this day some of the best looking around and are iconic to the Leatherman Brand .

Good advice, Jeff!:thumbup: I had no real reason to replace mine either, other than the occasional fear that I might be turning into a "set in my ways old geezer". But, hey, I gotta be me! :D:D

Ken, I think you've hit on a key distinction. Your requirements from a multi-tool are probably far more demanding (and frequent) than mine are.:thumbup:

The PST is still a very capable tool, I still have mine and carry it every so often.

The Wave is a sensible upgrade from the PST in my opinion. You will like the bit holder and one hand open blades. I love having the option of the serrated utility and fine edge clip point blade. I use the utility blade on clamshell packages and cardboard boxes keeping my fine edge blade sharp for when I need it. That is not an option with the PST.
