My "annoying" little polling last week had an ulterior motive...

Why do we have so little posting on the Becker forum?

Through my poll, I see we have AT LEAST 29 different individuals prowling this forum that own Beckers...

However, there isn't much discussion for at least 29 people...

Shoot, I only need one other person to converse with, and here are 28 other people, at a minimum! LOL!

There has to be things guys can post about.

I learned from my poll about over a half dozen models that I didn't even know existed and/or had their own numbers!!!

Please, share what you know or have experienced or a simple question!

Thanks!

My guess is Beckers have been around for a long time, and aren't the new hotness.

They just plain work well, and to be honest last a pretty long time.

I love using them, and see them recommended to newer members fairly regularly.

However, once you slap some micarta scales, a after market sheath, and a set of stainless hardware the dollar amount sorta gets up in the range of knives that use more premium materials.

Still...the BK series are a great line.

I used to post a fair amount of outings, cabin and otherwise, but I don't do hikes anymore. And how many threads can I do at the cabin, haha. I was getting sick of posting the same ol' crap, and I'm sure other people were tired of it.

Really all it takes is a QUESTION!

Look at this thread as an example…
This is post six because I asked…

A person’s question generates others’ thoughts which leads to replies.

Back when I had my own forums, I had a LOT of followers, not because of MY knowledge, but because I posed a lot of thought provoking QUESTIONS, which in turn spurred conversation.

I know I sometimes feel the same......?
How many knife pics can I take??? Ha.
But.......I know that I Do like seeing other people's pictures, so that's why I take the ones I do

Personally, I haven’t bought many knives recently because I think the prices have gotten out of hand. The last blade that I had enthusiasm for, the magnacut BK2, its $300 price didn’t sit very well with me. I also had to upgrade the crappy scales.

I would only be excited for magnacut versions of the 5, 15, and 9. I am also reluctant to buy them when they immediately come out.

There is also that some models have been disco'd that should not have.

The Becker knives work and have one of the best handle shapes on the market. The innovation to keep something up to date is rather in materials than in shape.

A regular production Bundok Bowie in 3V or Magnacut - That would create quite an interest. If the BK2 in Magnacut would have been thinner, that would create a very capable outdoor knife and that would not stay with the people that already know it.

Also, new knives like a BK2L will create some interest...

However, it is like it is & Beckers are not the "next new thing" but capable working knives.

I got the BK72 for semi-hype, but mostly for watery areas and for the large critter cutting season with their noncoated blades with longer edge retention against connectivity tissues and thingies in the critters. BK82 for the same reason. Plus I could afford them right now. The 1095 crovan BK2 is still a main out door tool as well. The KA-BAR BK2FDE on clearance is a real steal of a deal for such a great steel. GREAT to have more spares I plan to get.

I used to be around a lot (back when Warrior posted his great pics and Ethan was interacting here), but I think in large part, all forums are fading away. With Reddit, Instagram, etc, there are now other venues that cater to all of your interests instead of a narrow focus. People have moved to those things.

Interestingly enough, I just had a conversation today when someone asked me, "what steel or knife could you use to pound through a bolt" and I was happy to introduce them to the 1095 Becker BK2. Tools that work just work and I think it takes another generation to get excited to start talking about it again.

When I signed up here, my enthusiasm was in interacting with the other Beckerheads and the anticipation of cool new products.

I’d see posts about how KA-BAR had certain GAWs and other special things for Beckerheads here, but I never experienced any of that. I think that was long over by the time of my arrival.

Ethan was still around, but not posting often. The only GAWs here were by generous members, nothing official. I’d also hear fabled tales of certain members who seemed to be held in high reverence but seemed to never contribute here or on BF anymore; some showed up once every few years, even though they were still credentialed as Moderators. Official KA-BAR used to occasionally show up here too, not anymore.

New product announcements have slowed down. Interests wax and wane. Prices have arguably become unreasonable. Seems like some corners have been cut lately too (a limited edition magnacut BK2 with regular grivory scales, what?).

In addition to some of the quality regulars that post here, one of the only constants has been the presence of The Warrior The Warrior , IMHO he’s been the glue holding this place together for years now. He deserves a lot of credit!

So many of the OG's are gone from here but we still communicate and hang out when we have a chance. I guess it just ran it's course. Don't know. Sure used to be a fun place though didn't it Dubz?

If I look at my Becker Knives, the thing is that they just work without any problems. They are not as shiny or hyped up as other knives, but just amazingly dependable, super ergonomic tools that provide a absolut satisfying performance.

The discontinued BK17 is my 4" inch knife that I use all the time when I'm outdoors. If I want to cut a bit of birch bark to up my tinder, or just cut my lunch when I take a break, it just works. Also whittling is easy and my hand does not hurt after using it.

My 9 comes with me if I expect trail clearance. Chopping with it is so easy, as it is quite light, but still has the heft that you need.

They work without being in the spotlight, and do everything one needs.

But other manufacturers are way more active here, and they keep the level of interest higher. So as much as I enjoy my Beckers, Kabar is not actively promoting here, and well even the Estwing collab where they introduced their first full wide tang knife with the famous fighter style blade was no more than a marginal note here.

That BK 92 not looking possible for now, so I ordered another cheap BK2 from KABAR. To be another literal Beater to preserve the BK 72 and BK 82 for the important jobs they do.
