Why so few straight edge folders?

Hey, guys you are forgetting the CRKT Tuition which also sports a wharncliffe style blade... Here's an image:

Straight edges are great users. I think the market is heavily influenced by looks at the moment ... not function.

Yeah. The layman is probably more willing to buy a sexy recurve bowie or tanto, even if a wharncliffe is more practical.

However, wharncliffes seem to be making some headway in the tactical knife direction. It seems like all of those have a straight spine at an angle to the blade like a box cutter as opposed to a graceful curve.

That large Boker in the first post looks great. Is that the Rhino? I like the jimping too.

Anyway, I really like straight-edges, but the Wharncliffe's point can be troublesome sometimes. As useful as it is, it's so sharp and pointy it gets "snagged" on things a lot. Plus have you ever tried to clean your fingernails with one?

I've found that the 3" spey blade on my Case trapper is a good mix. It's got the big ol' belly at the tip, and a nice straight edge on the rest of it. No point, but I generally don't need one.

But, yeah, Sheepsfoot, Spey and Wharncliffes all have nice straight shapes that I like., but honestly I can't get used to now having a belly for some tasks.

I find wharnies really heavy on tip use. They're great, but I personally prefer a blade with more curve to it.

I like straight edges too...also hawkbills.

CRKT Folts Minimalist. This one comes in several flavors now, but this was the first one, a warncliffe.

My Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Swayback (their description) Wharncliffe.

You know, straight-edged tanto blades are essentially a wharncliffe with a triangle added to the end...

I really use my slipjoint knife for most of my day to day knife needs. I started carrying a Steel Warrior Cigar Whittler a ciouple weeks ago as a test to see how well a Chinese slipjoint would work. Works very well. The most used blade is the small wharncliffe. This, along with the other small blade are very thin and sharpen up like a razor. It slices through about anything I use it for.

I have come to like this style knife, wharncliffe that is. Even though this would not be a true wharncliffe blade, I really like the blade shape that Jeff Hall sometimes uses which is a slightly curver straight razor sytle.

If you like a hint of belly on yer Wharnie, Hiroaki Ohta makes an affordable custom Higo no Kami-ish friction folder with great lines. This is the small version, weighing in at under 1 oz.

Myerchin makes a smaller almost-straight-edged folder with a marlin spike, but it does sit in the pocket quite well.

Traditional sailor's rigging knives have a straight edge, I have even taken to bobbing the point off of the Cold Steel Thrower to make it a sheeps-foot. I like the way one can get a square cut on a heavy piece of line with a straight sharp edge and a block of wood to back it up.

Linder makes a beautiful boat knife with a straight edge. Hopefully the Mods will let me post this pic.

rick your pics are so great that i'm afraid to show in this thread. if the distributors possessed these abilities i think their sales would greatly increase.

I would like to add the Spyderco Perrin PPT to the list. I got to handle one recently-it is very, very comfortable and the almost-wharncliffe blade is excellent! It just feels ready to cut.

Sadly I am left handed so it was a no go :(

A modified Opinel #12. I did this one on a whim and was very surprised to see how useful it was. I do just about everything around the house with it these days.

I am devoid of any Wharnies right now. I sold my last one a while back and regret it.

I was just about to pull the trigger on the Boker Plus Elegance Nopal yesterday but forgot it was chisel ground right up to almost clicking Buy Now on the link. I remembered just in time. If that sweet looking little knife were V ground I'd own it right now. And you get 440c for a nice, low price. Too bad.
