Yep, I'm 18 I live at home and commute to college, as of current I've been working butt off pulling OT and such so i decide that i deserve a new knife. I mean i only have 3 or 4 and they're all pretty cheap nothing special. I decide that a benchmade would be pretty sweet so i'm cruising ebay just looking around and i place a bid on a darkstar only 42 bucks brand new from a dealer August 2000 knife of the month special. And bam whos there looking over my shoulder, mom with the why do you need another knife question. I shrug it off, i dont ask her why she wants some of the stuff she wants thats pretty useless and expensive. I say i'm most likely giving it to my brother for xmas which had crossed my mind if i didnt like it. But why is it always that question "Why do you need another knife?" If i only have 3 or 4 knives you guys must face that all the time. How do you guys cope?

I first started collecting knives seriously when i was about 19.. but i didn't live with my parents. At that time they still asked me why i liked knives so much... i just said "they're cool and they dont really drop in value so i could really just sell them on ebay for almost the same amount i bought them for as long as i dont abuse them.. or about the same or even more if i snagged a really good deal"... now i'm 24 and they kind of just leave me be cuz they're just used to me buying and collecting stuff... if you just tell yer mom that you like knives and you wanna collect 'em you won't have to find new brothers to buy xmas presents for all the time :) sooner she knows, the sooner she'll accept it :)

My girlfriend (luckily my Mum lives 90 miles away) asks the same thing...and I only have four aswell.

So I just say, "Why do you want more ear-rings? Which is more useful; shiny beads that get poked through a hole in your earlobe, or a general purpose cutting machine?".

She doesn't tend to ask anymore.

My mom complaints about me carrying so much things around (usually two very light weight folder from Spyderco and the PowerLock) and I argued that I don't feel the weight. Of course I knew that she's getting at me for buying so much :p
Well it's my hobby and it's really my money that I'm spending and she knows I like them so she really can't do anything about it.

You have to take the offensive on this one...Next time mom asks you that question, just tell her that you have so many knives for the same reason that dad has so many girlfriends...So you won't have time to get bored with the same thing day in and day out.:D.:D.

oooooohhh Glockman! That is evil!! :D
Wasz you could say well its better than spending my cash on dope and porn vids and gambling!!! Suddenly knives don't seem so bad. I think that's why we all hang out here so much. We don't need to explain to each other.

In fact, please get another knife, I have several to trade :)

To your Mom reply, "Does a stamp collector have
to many stamps? Does a coin collector
have to many coins? " ;) It's my hobby and "I"
enjoy it and it's way cheaper that drugs or other
bad stuff:D :D

I dont drink, I dont smoke, I dont do drugs what the hell am I suppose to do with my money.

My wife used to ask me that and rather angrily at times to boot. I said it's either collect guns or knives and knives are cheaper. Then I started buying Combat Handguns magazine, gun catalog or two and a couple other gun rags and left them out so she could peruse prices. She doesn't question the knives anymore.:p

yup, whenever i feel like the sheeple is getting too annoying i come here for some R&R. just tell them you don't need a reason for liking something,

When I was young my mother use to ask me that, not as much as my Dad did though. Look at it this way, it will wear off eventually. you ask her how many shoes she has? most woman have quite a few pairs, but its never a good idea to argue with mom. Just ignore it. Eventually it will stop, if not while your at home, then when you go your way. ;)

I havent had that problem in years hmmm Im getting older.
