why so much writing on knife blades?

Yes, some blades are a bit cluttered with words. But perhaps it comes along with an agreement of the person the company is collaborating with.

Some of the writting could get you in trouble if you use a blade for self defense (MOD comes to mind). A knife with wooden scales and a polished blade I can call a tool, but the same knife in G-10 with "Cop killer 9000, armor peircing steel" written on it's black coated blade will invariably be called a weapon.
Than theres the fact that it's just plain ugly...
