Why spyderco military?

For me, it is the light weight, 4" blade, excellent blade steel options, and distally tapered blade. It cuts very well, is easy to deploy the blade, and all of my Military's have a good detent to help keep the blade closed in pocket. I carry one everyday.

It seems i need to get one to understand it, huh? It shall be my next knife order. Thanks for great answers :P I think I can get used to tip-down carry. And if not, its great for my collection anyways.

I have noticed that the millie have many fans that just says it is the best knife that spyderco has to offer. And I wonder, why? I mean it is good looking, but it has many cons as well. Linerlock, only tip down carry, long and slender blade, and the tip looks weak. So I ask you millie fans, why do you like it so much? I plan on getting one but for me the clip position just sucks.

The military has the best executed liner lock on the market. You will not break or wear this lock out under normal folder use.I have five millies and still want more, and that's saying allot.

Because it's not some bloated, overweight, glorified folding prybar. ;)

It's an unadulterated "knife" and does what it supposed to do .... cut things.

IMHO, for it's blade size and weight -it will outcut the majority of production and custom folding/ fixed blade knives available.

+1 to this. It does everything I want a large folder to do and does so very well:thumbup:

I love the Millie's liner lock and prefer tip down on a knife this size.

If I need something thicker and sturdier I'll carry a fixed blade.

Lots of folders are way too thick and heavy in my opinion, but many seem to like the overbuildt feeling they provide.

And it just looks right (excuse other edc kit:o):

The linerlock on the millie is verry nice. It's both slim and strong.

The blade tip is very pointy, which I love. (there was a thread here complaining about tips that WEREN'T pointy, btw)

It's a breeze to clean out as well, and cutting performance is very good.

Righty tip-down only sucks though...

i bought my first one propably in 1995.

forgive me if i am wrong ? its been a workhorse, no matter what.

i have been carrying the Police, Endura, the small walker.....and the ParaM.

but the full size.....even after all the years and being beaten up....is still my all time favourite. to many things about this knife are correct ( for my hands )

in the meantime, i have about 10 other Millies, but just in the case.

this knife is a classic and never gets old !

Hi Atsipatsi,

The Military is a large folder (4" blade) in a light package that carries easily. The distal tapered full flat grind uses high performance steels and cuts quite well. It's easily used with gloves.

It's been continuously refined for the past 10+ years.

The Military2, while still being engineered, will have a 4 way clip.

sal
Military2?! Be right back, I need to wipe the drool of my keyboard...

IMO, the best folder Spyderco has made yet. I would LOVE to see them come out with a Paramilitary version in BG42 and carbon fiber, however. ;)

few more ideas:
- the slightly negative angle doesn't force the wrist into awkward positions when cutting
- if you manage somehow to break the handle, the tang is long enough to allow actual usage or you can improvise some sort of handle in a survival-like situation
- it offers multiple gripping positions
- again, in a survival-like situation the polished blade can double as a signaling mirror, with the spydie hole used as the aiming spot
- extremely easy to clean, especially after removing the backspacer

I used to be a big Para freak but since I recently acquired a couple of Millies through a combination of luck and serendipity, the Paras have been getting the short end of the stick.

The thing is that the Millie carries real well in the pocket. It is flat and light, so even if you're wearing your Saturday Nite Fever pants, you can still carry one easily.

I agree with an earlier post that said most folders are overbuilt these days. This is a good excuse for manufacturers to jack up the price IMO.

The Millie is a cutter par excellence. It slices like a dream. I wouldn't use it to saw or pry or baton, no sir. But it cuts like nobody's business.
