Why spydie flick with your middle finger?

With holes I can do either middle or index, depends on the knife for the most part.

Can really do Thumb studs on the reverse side...

I can honestly say I've never tried.

And even more disturbing, I don't care if any of my Spydercos drop shut.

I know, it's a lot to absorb in one sitting. But, there it is.

I only have two spydercos (that I'm keeping). I'm not a huge fan, but they use some great steels and provide a pretty good value (in my opinion). I have to admit, flicking open a spyderco does grant some kind of fidget satisfaction.

I agree with you. I couldn't care less if any of my folders drop shut or not. Quick deployment.... I can see the utility. Putting the blade away? As long as the action isn't gritty garbage that's out of spec, I don't really care.

I've wondered the same. To use my middle finger my grip feels all jammed up and unnatural. I've always just chalked it up to anatomical variation.
That's exactly how it feels to me. I wondered if there was any mechanical benefit.
I think you're probably right, anatomical variation. Maybe even just personal preference.
