Why spydie flick with your middle finger?

For those who wish to be fidget-flickers with cheap knives with opener holes, understand it is not an artform.

I shattered my thumb and lost some range of motion… Spydie flicking works better for me on some knives. Otherwise I just think it’s fun and can be the superior opening method on larger folders

You guys are boring! I am a proud "Spydie flicker" and I don't care who knows. I even take it further and see if I can do it with every finger.

Nothing about this hobby is practical so let's not pretend everyone has to have the same opening preferences. People enjoy their knives in all sorts of ways and that is really cool that there can be so many ways to get joy from man's oldest tool.
39 posts in to get a decent reply. I am SHOCKED so many "big names" around here have this negative attitude. Spydie flicking has been around forever! I really though most spyderco owners did it at least now and then. Why is this being discussed like this? All these forum experts basically talking smack... Offer a helpful response or move on not tarnishing you reputation by being degrading towards others. I know that I lost a little respect for a few here reading the first 30 replies.

OP: Different spyderco models are harder or easier. My GB 2 is hard, the hole is partly hidden. The pm2 is easy street every time. You just have to practice really. If people can learn to play a flute or whatnot, you can open that knife seven ways from Sunday. Just be safe. You'll drop it a few messing around, keep the feet back and don't try to catch it. Work over a soft floor.

Stay safe, HAVE FUN WITH YOUR KNIFE doing what you want and ignore the hate!!!

Maybe you should switch to decaf.

How can you possibly get worked up over the replies in this thread?

(I must've glossed over anything in this thread offensive enough to trip the alarm.)

I've had no caffeine today, but would like some soon. I'm "worked up" about people's negative attitudes. Can't I speak up when I perceive others are being treated unkind? Public forum and all...

You didn't reply to my positive and useful comments to OP. You instead chose to continue acting unkind towards me now.

You were one of those I was referring to and now you've lost even more respect. Not that you care or should care about me or my respect. I'm just saying, to me, your words have lost much meaning. Others may not comment like me, perhaps dreading your reply, but others will see how you act and think accordingly.

The question was why with the middle finger, not why do people reverse flip their knives. Regarding flipping “cheap knives” I have reverse flipped some pretty high dollar knives over $5k in price. Sorry if our $200 - $300 knives are too cheap for your taste. 😉

can do this with striders too

Yes. And I claim the same for myself.

I didn't "continue acting unkind" toward you as I wasn't previously unkind to you. And frankly, my comments earlier in this thread were made "tongue in cheek" but apparently you are too thin skinned, (or lacking in the ability to see humor for what it is), to appreciate it.

I am terribly, terribly sorry to have created this anxiety for you but I assure you that my comments in this thread were made by me as a "member" of the forums as opposed to a "moderator" on the forums.

Please feel free to complain to the owner of the site and request my dismissal for my boorish and insensitive behavior. (But please don't tell my mom. She's already disappointed in me.)

I'll try to be good from now on. Promise.
