Why the change from the proto on the Umnum?

Any particular reasons why the second ball bearing to prevent lock overtravel was removed from the production umnums? Cost issue?

iirc, crk said that lock over travel, that is, when the lock engages even all the way across, is not indicitave of any problem.

i would assume they thought the extra bearing to be unecessary.

The 2nd ball was not meant to stop over-travel of the lock bar as it is being dis-engaged. In the proto, it provides support under the lock bar in the closed position as the blade stop-lugs are resting on it. In the production version, the stop-lug is resting against the non-lockbar handle slab, thus removing the need for the 2nd ball.

But I think that the second ball also stops over travel. I don´t want to pressure the lock bar too much but it really works like "over travel stop".
