This is precisely why Bill hates special orders. Has for a long time....not just recently.
Yep, but that was before the advent of someone making a model. Having a model made getting the special order mostly correct on the finished product. The kamis got the AK Bowie within 98% of the model I carved and the changes that they implemented were actually improvements.
They got the YCS within 90% or maybe a little better but evidently that was after them getting the electric grinder because the edges were too thin which led to the YCS's cancellation. The model sure didn't have a thin flat edge.
Bura initially changed the Cherokee Rose to a flat bladed saber ground blade but Bill told them to make it like the model and they did. The model was totally convex as was the edge on the YCS.

Think of this too....they're putting out hundreds of khukuris...all day long...every day. Somebody tosses a design in the pile and says "Make this". If you spent your entire day/week/month/whatever making habaki-style bolsters, why would you suddenly stop?
You wouldn't. And especially if it were -easier- to make the so-called habaki bolster. I've said before it would be a great modification if it were a true habaki bolster instead of a habaki style bolster.
Another reason why I say the kamis have gotten lazy.

If Bill could be there in person to give directions, everything would go much smoother - he's said it himself. However, that's no longer possible. :(
Yep, but I'm pretty damned sure that if Bill told them he was going to close this end of HI down if they didn't get their act together that there would be an epiphany at BirGhorka and that suddenly we would get the same beautiful high quality -And Traditional- knives that we used too get.
But I don't blame Bill for not doing so. I -know- what being sick can do to a guy when he's lived with it for a while and has been given pretty much what amounts to a death sentence.:(
Don't know if I would screw with it myself if I were in Bill's place, but on the other hand I don't have the patience Bill does nor am I aware of -All- of the particulars. :p

Bill's doing the best he can right now - except for ordering me a 17"-18" Foxy Folly.:p :D ;)
