Why the drop point love in Beckerland?

For me, it's all about that piercing tip. Whether it's boring holes, making small cuts, or defending yourself, or putting something out of it's misery:)
I personally love the look of a clip point, buuuuut, it depends on the knife too! No one really factored that in there;) With the thickness and size of the famed bk2, I love the drop point, because it adds function to that specific knife, and that thick, saber ground blade with an almost full spine, is a very large area of control for me. The reason i love that blade so much, is because of the amount of control, which the drop point adds to.

An interesting technique I learned while butchering this season was to place the spine of the knife against the leg bone and to slide the knife forward. The drop point allowed the knife to be steered and levered without grabbing the bone with the back of the tip.

But sometimes I'll compromise..... Straight-clipped BK-17:

Wanna send it to me for testing:D Amazing man, Now I have to do it...Just need a 17:)

I just don't like concave clips.
Drop point or straight clip both work fine for me.
clip point drills small holes better, removes splinters, yadda, yadda...
drop point carves better, drills bowdrill anchor & hearth holes easier, yadda, yadda...

mostly it's about what you learned with and personal preference (other than the drop point has a stronger tip due to more meat thing)

Even the moe meat thing doesn't really apply on a well designed modified clip. The "meat" runs down the center to the tip to make a strong point. The clip will split wood a little better too since you're not dealing with a full wedge. The wood doesn't touch the top of the blade with the same amount of resistance you have on the drop point full flats. I do agree it's mostly what you learned with, but there are a few things you just can't do with a drop.'

The single avantage I found with a full flat is the tip is blade width to it is a little easier to beat on with a stick. You can still do it with a mod clip it just dings up the baton.

Jroden, those are the hoopiest froody wooden tweener scales I've ever seen. Hail Eris!

Can't say I prefer either one. I'm more of a utility person than a hunter, so drop points are probably better for my needs.

I'm a clip fan personally. I see the usability of the drop, and of the trailing. But personally I'm a fan of the Clip. On the smaller knives like the 17 I like the way it curves for the point. But I like the sharp point/angle of the large knives. I <3 my 10 with a PASSION!
