Why the hate on recurve blades

those Randalls are beautiful, I don't think I have ever seen them!

I recently made and sold these 2. Had to fight the urge to keep them, as I really like recurves :D

Hey Comedie,

That sir is the discontinued ZT 0121 fixed blade :) its an awesome slicer and you can find them very well priced when they come up on the exchange
I like it! Alas,,,, folders for me, and no more than 4" blade. When out fishing the fixed would work for me, but not for my everyday pocket-able.

Just touched up my 1585 speedbump's edges this morning. Still carrying the old std one, made in the USA, with flat aluminum scales. Have the s30v 1586 still nib from years ago too, but liked the smooth better than the rough G10. Won't eat my pocket away. Iffy steel I guess by today's stds, and has a 'patina', but still gets sharp. Straight edge toward tip, and a deep gullet,,,, the dang thing works for me. Will be a shame when it dies or disappears.
Now I'm wondering if I could simply swap scales between my old 1585 and the 1586 with the higher end blade. Hmmmmm.

I see 1585's around still real cheap, but appear to be made in China. I don't mind where it comes from so much, but the odd locking mechanism used has apparently been replaced with plastic on the China ones. Looks like it anyway. Never saw this locking style used on other knives, but as critical as the stud is, not sure I'd like the thought of it becoming plastic. :( Well, for the $32 I see it going for, might still be worth getting.

Suspect a ZT0200 is in my future. Closest step up from what I've got. Just wish they'd refreshed it to a newer steel and locking, and I do like speedsafe, but then it is cheap for a ZT too. Might have to massage the grip a but to not eat pockets tho.

I had a Kershaw Spec Bump. I didn't like the way it cut. I used it a lot for several months and realized it was just another style I don't care for on a folder.

probably depends a whole lot on what you cut. #1 PITA with most knives for me has been heavy spectra. I tend to use 50-130lb rated stuff a fair bit, and once I reworked the gullet a bit, it became my go-to knife for that, anything like rope, cord, twine or tubing. And occasional misuse on electrical wire. Absolutely not the knife I'd pick for a lot of other things, but works great for what I've needed a knife for most myself
