Why the nail knick on an EO Jack?

I love EO Jacks. I carry my BF knife a lot. One of the things I love is that you can get a great purchase and kind of slide through the half stop if that makes sense. It opens more like a non half-stop knife. You open a tl-29 much differently for instance.

So, my question is, why the knick? On the BF EO, there is a long pull, too. Looks great. Beyond looks it is unnecessary, though. Has anyone make an EO jack a blank blade? I've never seen one.

By coincidence, I just found myself looking at this very same feature on the same knife, and thinking that I never really use the pull. However, as you say, it "looks great", reason enough for having it IMO, and I think the knife would look strange without it.

When your fingers loose their grip. you can still use the nail nick.

Because it's even easier to open with the nick? The nick provides additional purchase. Besides it would look funny if the nick was missing, like the manufacturer forgot a step. People would complain that So-and-so has nonexistent QC and that they can't believe that the knife left the factory without anyone noticing.

hahahaha!:D

It would be like walking out of the house without pants on; you'd just look naked.

Ha! So, we're just vain. Although the knick does provide some extra purchase, I suppose.

Not all would know to pinch it open. Lot's of folks don't own but one knife...lol. Unlike us! But everybody
knows what the nick or long pull is used for. Plus some may be scared to pinch the blade, Afraid of getting cut...imho.

Yeah, that definitely could be true. Non-knife folks are funny. Knicks make me more nervous than pinching a blade. ;)

Some folks just need to stay away from things that are sharp period!...lmao ;) They can
get cut just by looking at something sharp...lmao

There is someone on these very forums that I made an E.O. for without a nail
nick with a sheepfoot blade- he may chime in.
Ken.

There were some GEC made Bulldogs that didn't have any pulls. They were single blade versions of the #25 pattern.

Added traction is one reason. On a pinchable blade the nick adds great traction when your hands are bloody or oily, or slick. Some of my pinchable blades are only pinchable because the nail nick is where it is.

Seems reasonable to me that the blades were batch made for several different patterns and the craftsman making EO versions went to that bin for his blades. Just a WAG on my part but seems plausible.
